Thank You To My Roommate For Becoming My Best Friend

Thank you for not only being the best roommate but for becoming someone who I have by my side every day. Freshman year would've been a whole different story without you by my side.

Thank You To My Roommate For Becoming My Best Friend
Emma Funiciello

We all felt the same way coming to college: the constant fear of who your roommate was going to be, whether you got someone random or met them online before school started the nerves, and butterflies in your stomach were there no matter what. Everyone worries about not making friends their freshman year at college, and the only thing that could be worse than that is not getting along with your roommate. I was lucky enough to have gone from having a roommate to a life-long best friend.

College, for me, was absolutely the most nerve-wracking feeling personally. I don't do well with big changes and I just hoped and prayed that I would get along well with you and we did more than I imagined we would. It wasn't just that we shared the obsession over Taylor Swift, it was who you are as a person that made it easy for me to get along so well with you. Every day I learned more and more about you. You weren't afraid to just be yourself and that is so important. You really changed me as a person from the minute I walked in that dorm. As I learned more about you, I was learning more about myself and finding my true self. You have impacted me in such a good way and have showed me how to not take every day for granted, and finding the silver lining in every negative thing that came about our days. Knowing that if I were to have a bad day and just the thought of knowing that at the end of the day when I got back to the dorm I could lean on you to cheer me up and comfort me when I was sad. Or sit and watch sad movies just so we could sob while we binged on junk food.

This year was a roller coaster, from boys, grades, friends, and personal struggles we stood by each other every step of the way. Its not every day that you find someone that not only will stick by you when you're up but most importantly be there when you are down. So thank you for being my roommate, thank you for allowing me to proudly say that you have become my best friend. Thank you for telling me when I really needed to shower, thank you for giving me honest advice, thank you for giving me your homework when I was too lazy to do mine, thank you for allowing my side of the room to be an absolute pig sty while yours stayed spotless, thank you for telling me it was ok to have a bad day and not do any homework and to nap instead, thank you for being an idiot with me, and thank you for being YOU.

Having a roommate who becomes someone so special in your life is such a key part of the college experience, I cannot imagine what my freshman year would've been like without have meeting you. You have made it a year to remember, you have found my deepest and most valuable qualities and reminded me of them every day and never fail to put a smile on my face. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for being MY roommate and becoming MY best friend. Life without your obnoxious noises, stupid dances, and interesting stories would not be the same and I would not be who I am at this point in my life without you. Stay amazing. xoxo

Love,

Your roommate

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
