Every four years is not nearly enough. For sports fans, every four years feels like an eternity that's never going to come to fruition. Every fouryears we see a city take on athletes from all around the world; the ends of the earth. When an Olympic year finally rolls around, it's something to look forward to, and it's not something to be taken advantage of.
While fouryears is certainly a long time, it is necessary to put on these spectacular sporting events to their full potential. If they were to happen annually or even bi-annually, there wouldn't be enough funding from countries for their athletes, or for the host city to build and maintain the Olympic Village, arenas, tracks, and other grounds in which the sports are competed.
The Olympics Games are a few weeks where sports of every facet are nationally televised for the world to see. It's a time where we see athletes see their dreams become a reality. These games give inspiration to fans, to countries, and to future Olympians. An avid Olympian fan myself, I try my best to take advantage of these few weeks during both the Summer and Winter Olympics. I find myself becoming interested in new sports, cheering on some of my favorite athletes, and keeping a close eye on the medal count for each country.
We find ourselves waiting for these games every four years, and thankfully we have both the Summer and Winter Olympics occurring in separate years to help the time go by just a little faster. If you haven't tuned into any of the coverage thus far, find a TV, phone, or computer and catch some of the action up until Feb. 25.
