Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the most prolific, if not the single most productive, wide receivers in the NFL today. His cocky attitude and swagger brings flare to the league that it so desperately needs and the New York Giants could not be happier with his performance thus far. In his first two seasons, OBJ has already posted receiving numbers that surpass even the likes of Randy Moss and other talented receivers in their sophomore season. Making a name for himself came as no problem after last season’s catch against the Dallas Cowboys, we all remember that one…
...If it was not for that receiving touchdown of a lifetime, you may have seen him now and again doing his infamous touchdown celebration.
The 23-year-old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana found a home in East Rutherford with the Giants and Eli Manning was clicking his heels from the minute the news of his acquisition was revealed. Odell absolutely lived up to being the twelfth pick overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, there was never a bust situation in sight. This flashy talent the Giants call their number one on the depth chart made his mark that he deserved to be in the NFL ever since his debut. Although it is far too early to be talking about this young receiver in the same conversation as Randy or Jerry Rice, if OBJ keeps his head on straight he may just be the next best receiver the NFL has ever seen. That is until the scuffle with Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman may have tarnished his reputation.
Odell Beckham Jr. is highly respected for his talent as a football player but often ridiculed for his childish behavior on the field. While he does live up to the hype, his sportsmanship does not do him any favors. NFL trash talk is a scary thing and to be quite honest, it would be tough for anyone to get past some of the things those guys say. On Dec. 20, 2015, Odell was the center of attention of Josh Norman’s verbal onslaught. Being in the position that these guys are in, you would think that they could handle these kinds of insults but Beckham Jr. let it all go to his head too quickly. Letting emotion get the best of him, OBJ decided violent play would be the answer.
Enter the fist-fighting "drama queen" the Giants call their go-to-guy.
If you have not seen the videos of OBJ and Josh Norman’s physical altercations, it is definitely one for the books. Odell Beckham Jr. continues to show that he cannot handle the trash talk and only further proves to be a PreMadonna in just about everything he does. While there is room for showboating and occasional over the top celebration, there’s no room for Odell’s actions in the game of football which include leading with the head at someone else’s to intentionally hurt them. His touchdown celebrations are great and his talent can back up his word, but he has to grow up and learn to be respectful on the field and play with sportsmanship.
That one game suspension was rightfully deserved.
