When October 1st rolls around, it's without a doubt we all get a little excited. This is the official month of fall and then comes Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving break and then before you know it Christmas! For the last three months of the year you have some form of celebration to look forward to which helps you get through the week.
That being said, with October comes the unexpected prospect of spending a lot of money. Obviously this month can't compare to the expenses we rack up during Christmas season. But what's dangerous about October is that you don't expect it to be incredibly expensive. We become so enthusiastic about all the foliage and the apple orchards and Halloween costumes that suddenly the money you've put aside for you monthly budget is gone within a week.
Here is why we may become susceptible to the influence of fall.
1. Pumpkins and Apples! You can't celebrate October without engaging in some form of apple of pumpkin picking activity. And you can't buy just one pumpkin because then then you won't have enough to make multiple pies! Then you need to buy ice cream and other ingredients to accompany said pies because pie always tastes better with enhancements such as these and so on....
2. The October-themed drinks! Two words: Pumpkin Spice. Everywhere you turn, every food establishment and their mother is advertising their version of a fall drink. Whether it be overexposure to apple cider, pumpkin themed beer, or if your friends invited you to Oktoberfest, there is no way you're making it out of this month without dropping some money here and there on these sorts of beverages.
3. The events. We find any way to turn an every day event into some variation of a Halloween celebration. For example, pet costume parades, costume parades in general, pumpkin designing contests, going to Salem, etc. Without a doubt all of these are adorable, but sometimes things can get a little out of hand. For example if you've decided to do a day trip to Salem then obviously you have to buy/make a costume to wear while going. It just wouldn't be the same experience!
4. Finally....Halloween itself. We all know Halloween isn't just a one day celebration, it lasts an entire weekend at least. So that means multiple costumes and therefore a whole lot of preparation. But it's so much fun! We can't help going over the top because after all, Halloween only comes but once a year. Also, if there was ever a chance for you to dress like Kesha, then of course one must seize the opportunity to do so.
So be sure to enjoy the wonderful month of October and all the unusual activities it has to offer. Just perhaps be aware of how much money you're deciding to spend on glitter and apple donuts: because before you know it, it will catch up with you.
