I will try not to make this a ranting article, or a sappy article. But this article is a small response to Trump being elected as president. This article is to let people know that they are not alone. I know the next few years may be really scary, but we will survive; we have to survive this.
I want to first address those who feel that people do not have a right to be upset or scared. I cannot say the words I want to, but if you think minorities are over reacting by voicing their fears then you are invalidating other people’s feelings and that is wrong. You may not know what they are going through because you do not live their lives and you may have nothing to fear because of your privilege. That’s all I want to say on this subject.
People have a right to be scared and terrified because hours after Trump was elected assaults and attacks started all over the country. People of color, women, and members of the LGBT+ community were targets and honestly these attacks make me sick. The attacks and hate crimes on people are more terrifying than the man himself in some cases.
To those who are rioting for any reason, you need to stop. You aren’t helping either side of this issue. There is a difference between a protest and a riot. I understand you are angry, but riots are not the answer. Protests get just as much media coverage and get your point across in a more cohesive way. Riots destroy cities and towns and immediately destroys any creditability your cause has in the eyes of society. So stop the riots. Protest until your hearts contents but do not destroy cities and towns in riots. Please.
Next, to those who are afraid. I was, and still am afraid, I am a bi-sexual woman and I am afraid. But these past few days I have learned to find those little nuggets of hope to keep me moving and to keep me fighting. They may not be the strongest nuggets of hope but they are mine and no one can take that away from me. A youtube video I watched by Ashley Mardell (channel name: HeyThere005), called “Election Blues…” really inspired me to find my little nuggets of hope and I encourage those who need it to go watch her video.
My little nuggets of hope include my friends who have shown that I am not alone in this fight. Both the ones who stood with me during the facebook attack and those I have made in the past week. I can’t thank all of you enough for what you have done for me. Next, my sister and my family. No one can take my sister away from me and she will always stand next to me no matter what I get myself into. Then there is my education, I will always have my education and the things I learn. I will always have my kind spirit and my ability to always be there for anyone and everyone. No one can make me not be positive or over optimistic. And no one can stop me from being kind to people. But, these are just a few.
You are not alone, please go find those people who stand by you no matter what and those who lift you up when you need it. No one can take those people away from you. And if you need someone who will stand with you I will be that person. I will be there for anyone who needs it. Find your little nuggets of hope, whatever they will be and hold on to those. No one can take away your hope. Stand strong, stand peacefully, stand with hope and love
