A Not-So-Typical Letter to My Big

Dearest Biggie,

There have been many open letters and articles from Littles to their Bigs. Most have been on why they love them, and all those reasons are pretty basic. You know I love you, and you know many of the sappy and basic reasons why. So, instead of copping out and writing about how you're my other half, I'm going to write about all the more unknown reasons of why I both appreciate and love you. I would tell you to get out your Kleenex, but you're not a huge crier, so just prepare for a well deserved inflation of your ego.

I love you because you're smart. Literally, you are one of the smartest people I know. Whether it's discussing in depth theories on world policy or giving me advice on what to wear, your inner genius is apparent. I always want you to keep talking, if only for a chance that I can absorb even an eighth of your intelligence.

I love you because you don't coddle me. You know when I need to hear how fantastic I am, but most importantly when I need to be brought back down to Earth. When I'm wrong, when I'm too bitchy, when I'm being unfair and only seeing my side of something, you're the first to let me know. You know I may not take being reprimanded well, but you do it because I need it. And even if at the time I'm upset, five minutes later I am so thankful and appreciative of you making me see reality.

I love you because you're honest. Even if a lie would make me feel better, you always choose truth, because you know it's better for me in the long run. It could be as mundane as, "yeah, your eyeliner is a bit uneven," or as eye opening and world changing as, "you need to move on; you don't know how to be alone and you need to learn how to be." Not many people know how to be this honest, but you do, and without it I'd be lost.

I love you because you make me get off my butt and work. Sometimes it's indirect motivation, like watching you trade in weekends at the bar to study for the LSAT. Other times it's direct, like you showing up unannounced and making me work because you know I need to. You are someone who works so hard in every aspect of your life, and it is so inspiring and motivating for me to witness.

Finally, the pièce de résistance; I love you because you're unapologetically you. If someone doesn't like you, too bad. If somebody tries to change you, you laugh in their face and walk away. Seeing you be yourself so truly and fully has been a blessing for me, and has rubbed off on me as well. You see, you own who you are, and at 21, that's still a rarity. I adore you for that.

Biggie, you're amazing. No, you aren't perfect, but to me, you're as close as it gets. You have taught me so much and changed my life. All of these reasons and many others are why I am so grateful to have you in my life. Yes, I get it, this article is still kind of sappy, but it's all true. And you know what, you deserve the sappiness. Thanks for being the best person ever and in turn making me a better one. I love you!

Your Little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
