There's just something about the holidays that puts people in that cheery spirit. With 2016 right around the corner, people often reflect on how they spent their last 365 days, and how they can improve the next. Problem is, most of the time these resolutions we promise to make are never fully fulfilled and are almost always forgotten about. So what is something that actually has potential of being followed through? Here are four simple ways to add practicing being happy to the top of your list.
1. Self-Love
I'm sure you've heard this plenty of times, but the proof is in the pudding. Without self-love you won't go far, and I've recently come to terms with that. If you don't love yourself, no one will truly be able to love you back. The key is to embrace who you are as an individual and to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Never dwell on the past and stay focused on the future, for you are in control of your life.
2. Maintain Healthy Relationships
Sometimes an unhealthy relationship can be hard to spot, but if that time comes, you have to end things immediately. This can relate to friends, family, partners, co-workers, etc. Interacting with others who either bring you down, or don't bring anything to the table at all can seriously impact your well-being. Surround yourself with genuine people who are rooting for you and have the same interests or morals as yourself. The more support you have, the more joy will be brought into your life.
3. Clean Your Mind and Body
You were probably waiting for me to mention eating healthier and dieting, but I did not want to sound cliche, so that's why I chose to refer to it as a cleanse instead. You do not have to lose 45 pounds to be happy. Sure, dropping some dress sizes or fitting in those tiny jeans from high school would definitely put a smile on your face, but there are other means to feel this way. Eating clean can be as simple as just knowing what you're putting into your body. A positive mindset will clear your mind of all toxic thoughts.
4. Make Time (and Money) for What You Love
Whether it's treating yourself to the nail salon or setting time aside to catch up on some Real Housewives, make sure you make time for yourself. Grown-ups are allowed to have hobbies too. Be adventurous and discover something new and don't hold back. There are endless opportunities in this world if you only open yourself up to them.
