We all know that Christmas changes as you get older. You stop believing in Santa Claus, you stop asking for "fun" things (that's what my mom told me when I got extremely excited about asking for pots and pans this year), and as you get older you stop receiving as many gifts. When I got into college Christmas started to mark engagement season. My freshman and sophomore years that didn't mean much. Most of my friends were not in the situations to be engaged. Well now I'm 23, and let me tell you, EVERYONE I KNOW IS GETTING ENGAGED.
Don't get me wrong, this makes me happy! In fact, in the past two weeks I have seen so many engagements, that it's literally comical at this point.
Well as much as I love my boyfriend, I will not be seeing a diamond ring this holiday season (which is not at all a problem with me), so here's 12 things I've been doing instead.
1. Coughing up glitter (aka working). I work retail. Glittery ornaments, glittery trees, glittery ribbon. You get the idea.
2. Laughing/crying at the fact that everyone has gone home for the break. Pro: Nobody is in town so I can go anywhere I want. Con: Nobody is in town so anywhere I go I have to go alone.
3. Binge-watching Law and Order: SVU (I can't stop)
4. Getting kicked out of the house as soon as I arrived home for the holidays (mom's Christmas party was last night, so as far as she was concerned, my dad and brothers and I didn't exist).
5. Playing with makeup. This boredom is the perfect time for me to master my contouring skills ("master" is a relative term).
6. Going through my closet and cleaning it out (again, and still being surprised by some of the things I find).
7. Going to Walmart with my mom. And seeing everyone I know. Everyone.
8. Snooping around the tree to see which gifts are for me, in hopes that I can guess what they are based on their size.
9. Watching Star Wars and drinking apple cider. Watching Harry Potter and drinking apple cider. Watching anything and drinking apple cider. (It's homemade.)
10. Eating. Everything.
11. Basically just watching everyone get engaged while my boyfriend is 2 states over.
12. Considering the benefits of receiving a dollar for every engagement I've seen this holiday season.
But no seriously... this is the most wonderful time of the year, and I am so very happy for all of those who have gotten/are getting engaged, and of course I wish them the very absolute best! 'Tis the season!
