This election has certainly been filled with ups and downs on both sides. There seems to be much negativity surrounding the election, almost certainly due to the fact that the candidates are equally horrible and unqualified. Just because my beliefs, be they with Hillary or Trump or literally any other candidate, may disagree with yours, you have no right to tell me I’m wrong, to assume things about me, or to judge me based on my ideals.
Look at any past election and try to show me a candidate who was perfect; a candidate that was free from scandal and controversy, one with whom you sided completely.
A candidate that shared your exact opinions on every single subject.
If you do, you aren’t thinking for yourself and might want to rethink your choice to vote.
That said, the judgment you place on me based on my political preferences is completely and utterly ridiculous. Now, if I come out and profess my love and adoration for North Korea’s "wonderful" system of government, you have my full permission to doubt my judgment and perhaps my sanity.
The problem comes up when we are blinded by perception of party values to the point where those who disagree are presumed evil instead of just people holding a different opinion. As a passionate and informed conservative, I realize that there are many folds to conservatism, and this election cycle has been a particularly difficult one, lacking any true conservative candidate. There are things I agree with and things I disagree with. But one thing that I will always, and do appreciate and value, is that I am an American.
The United States of America prides itself on individual freedom and the respect for the freedoms granted by the Constitution. An amazing tenet of our country, that is sadly missing from many other nations in the world, is that we have the freedom and ability to share and voice our own opinions in whatever way we see fit. When the world becomes one where one single opinion is considered ‘correct’ and everything else is considered wrong and horrible, we will lose the very basic idea on which our country was founded.
You don’t know who I am based on my political preferences, you don’t get to tell me who to vote for. My political party does not make me a good or bad person, no one is right 100% of the time and no one candidate or party is perfect. We are extremely lucky to live in a country where different political opinions are tolerated and accepted and that is something every single person should appreciate.
