Life gets very hectic for everyone, but for students around Finals week, stress reaches a whole new level. As individuals, we focus solely on our own problems and forget the fact that everyone is walking around fighting an internal battle. When life gets hectic, we all need to stop an analyze our own life. We have so many things to be thankful for in our own lives, but somehow we always focus on the negativity. Recently, I have focused and found five things I am grateful for:
1. My Sunday School Kids
This past September, marked my third year as a volunteer teacher for the two and three year olds at my church. When I began that volunteer work, I did not know how much those kids would affect me, especially with my first group of kids. There are two that are very dear to my heart still. They have made me a better person. As my second group of kids get promoted to the next class, I truly miss them, but I am excited about the ones I have now.
2. My Dog
In my previous article, my dog was the highlight. He is a rescue Yorkie that has a big personality. I rescued him over four years ago at the beginning of my college experience. He has been through all the late night cramming sessions and recently the life of apartment living. We both have had our highs and lows, but I don't know where I would be without him. He has taught me to be more patient and is the true definition of unconditional love.
3. My Education
I was once told, "Never to let my schooling interfere with my education," and I took that to heart. When it comes to life, it doesn't always work out as planned, and that is okay. You must learn from it though. I have heard so many students complain about their education rather than their schooling. The education is your desire to learn, while schooling is simply the people and the place you interact while learning. I learned that regardless of the education system and your beliefs in it - for or against - you should make sure your education isn't cut short by pitying your surroundings.
4. My Career
I began a career in the Medical Field and I ended up in Real Estate Appraising. Situations change, life constantly goes ahead, and I wouldn't change it for one bit. I found what I loved. As my Academic career ends, and my Appraising career begins, I am thankful for my boss and the small town that I live in. I am part of a small business and I love every bit of it.
5. My Relationships
These people make me who I am today - I am so thankful how each one has touched my life differently. I have learned from them all to constantly grow and be positive as well as the sole fact that each one is fighting their own battles. I am grateful for the ones that stay up just to make sure I made it home safe and the ones that surprise me with Starbucks during a long day. Those actions make me feel loved.
In the end, do not take your happy days for granted by focusing on the negativity. Life constantly moves forward and sometimes, you can lose sight of the most important things. We don't get second chances for life, so live your own to its fullest ability.
