No right. No wrong.
There is one thing life keeps teaching us: The right or wrong rule, which can be defined as “there is no right or wrong unless you feel bad about it”.
There are millions, thousands, and billions of paths a human being can choose, and there will be much more to come. This is due to all decisions that people make, either small or big, that will keep leading them to something great. After some life lessons, I can understand what is right or wrong for me. And you can understand that too. For example, the fear of failing before taking important decision is right for me. It makes me wonder about what is going to happen next. It makes me feel emotional. It makes me feel alive. And it makes me feel human.
Kazuo Ohno, a Japanese dancer who mastered the Butoh Dance (tr. from Japanese as "The Dance of Darkness"), explained his view upon his life saying: "I wish to dance the dance of wild grass to the utmost of my heart." He was creatively expressing the joy of life through his movements and through his body and it was his decision to do so. The new and fresh style of dancing called "Butoh" was shocking to the audience because it looked different from everything they have ever seen. Nevertheless he continued to develop his own style, which now is a part of Japanese culture and is followed by crowds.
Similarly to Kazuo Ohno, I needed to decide whether what I do is right for me.
It all started with one very simple decision. When I was 9 years old I decided to learn how to dance. I was watching “Dancing with the Stars”, which was a popular TV-show that challenged celebrities to try to become professional dancers. At that time I felt as if not trying to dance would leave a scar on my life. It was the first time I felt I am doing something important on my own. And also it was the first time I was afraid.
While standing in front of the door to the dance class the quick thought sparkled in my mind: “What if I can’t dance?” Our imagination works faster than our thoughts by picturing the possible scenarios, which is also an emotional sign of our body.
After the first dance lesson I made a second decision. I came back home and I said:
“I want to continue”.
This was another fast idea that lightened my mind. If my inner voice was telling me I have to trust it.
And I continued to dance, even though it wasn’t easy. Now I am fully convinced in the accuracy of this decision. Every time my body moves with the beat of music I feel it with my whole existence. I WAS RIGHT. That experience brought me to the third rule that I learned:” Doesn’t matter if it is right or wrong, it won’t be easy”.
After all these years I still use the same rule. There is no right and wrong. To be afraid is a sign that you want to do it. Because we are humans that feel fear facing something previously unknown for us. And guess what. Choosing between right or wrong will be one of the essentials of your life thus you need to decide whether you want to start trusting your inner voice a little bit more.
