No More "New Year, New Me"

Life is all about what you make it, so why wait all year to make improvements?

No More "New Year, New Me"
NY Times

2016 is almost over, and people are starting to set their "New Year, New Me" goals. These are all the typical goals, like eating healthier, exercising more, quitting smoking, saving money, etc. While these are great goals to set for the new year, shouldn't we always be setting goals for ourselves to do better? Life is all about what you make it, so why wait all year to make improvements?

Instead of assessing your life over the past year and thinking of ways to make it better, try setting goals for yourself every week. It doesn't have to be anything major, it can be as small as remembering to put the cap back on the toothpaste when you're done with it. As long as you're making the effort and you're noticing a positive difference in your life, that's all that matters.

If something isn't working for you, do something about it. Pay attention to the little things, keep a notebook even. Life can get hectic at times, and it's easy to take short cuts or lose sight of whats important. You get so caught up in the motions that you forget about the priorities you've set for the new year. You blink, it's 2017, and nothing you've set for yourself is accomplished.

That's how this new year will be so much different from all the others. Set your goals, accomplish them, and continue to set new goals for yourself. Do it by day, or week, but make sure you're checking off the boxes on your list. Before you know it you will be living the life you strive to live, and you will feel much better about it.

There is no need to reinvent yourself. Just go one day at a time to be a better person...for yourself and for the people around you.

Happy New Year!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
