A "vlog," defined by Urban Dictionary, is a blog in which the postings are primarily in video form, the word "vlog" being a combination of the words "video" and "blog." Vlogging has become huge in the YouTube community. The act of vlogging has arguably overthrown the original form of documenting regular everyday occurrences, called blogging. Popular YouTubers such as Zoella, Tyler Oakley, Tanya Burr, and Erik Conover have been able to acquire thousands of view on their vlogs.
Erik Conover is a young male in his 20s that moved to New York City to pursue his modeling career with his model girlfriend, Jessica Clements. After a couple of successful months of modeling, suddenly Erik's agency let him go. At first Erik was devastated and unsure what his next career move would be. Soon after, Erik picked back up with vlogging, an action he'd always been passionate about for as long as he could remember. Erik noticed in the YouTube comment bar, the comments were primarily positive and people wanted to see more. Erik started to document everything he would do on a normal day in New York City and the views on Erik's daily vlogs skyrocketed.
Erik regularly ventures into the streets of New York City, and occasionally travels out of state all the while documenting his experiences. Contrary to popular belief, I believe watching such vlogs is the best and most efficient way to see New York City without paying for plane ticket or traveling there yourself. Such vlogs could be very useful for those questioning if they would wish to travel to New York City. You are able to see the restaurants, shopping centers, stores, markets, etc. before visiting and spending your hard earned money on thing that you don't truly know much about. Before you watch the vlogs you might have a false perception of what the place is truly like, a perception directed by movies and staged TV shows. The good, the bad, and all that is in between about New York City is shown is Erik's vlogs, along with many other New York City based vloggers/YouTube personnel's. Other New York City based vloggers are Dylan Magaster, and Casey Neistat.
Even if you are not entirely sold on a visit New York City one day, you can watch the vlogs for entertainment! They serve many purposes. So from views of the Empire State building, Times Square, or Central Park, Erik Conover's vlogs have it all! Of course watching a video wont compare to actually traveling to New York City but it's a great outlet for those who would love to experience the big apple prior to investing any money into traveling to New York. If these vlogs inspire you to take a trip to New York City then safe travels!
