New Years Resolutions and Goals

New Years Resolutions can be hard to stick with for a whole year, however there are some great ways to stick to something if its a simple and realistic goal. I figured I'd give you some good ideas for resolutions and some tips and tricks to keeping those:

1. Do one nice thing for someone new everyday.

This is a lot easier than it sounds. It may be a little hard at first, but it can be as simple as asking someone if they need help doing or making something. Or holding a door for someone, helping them lift something heavy, or just listening to them/ letting them vent to you.

2. Fitness/health goals

A fitness goal can be as simple as changing the way you eat or work out. It can be slow or small changes over the course of the year, nothing huge has to happen at all, but when you look back it may seem huge. Your fitness or health goal can be as simple as deciding to feel healthier at the end of the year, and over the course of the year you can drink more water daily, eat more veggies and fruits. and/or adding in a workout. There are some great cheap gyms out there that offer classes (some offer them without any extra cost!) that could help you get healthier. Zumba and weight lifting classes are great because many of them (or at least the ones I have tried) have music blasting which can motivate you to do better.

3. Picking up a new skill or hobby

There are plenty of In expensive ways to pick up skills and hobbies. You can take a soccer ball or a football out and pass it around with a friend, or kick it off a wall, or find a group of people to play with.

4. Dropping an old, boring, and/or unhealthy hobby

Sometimes, letting go of an old hobby is hard. But sometimes its for the better, like if your hobby is unhealthy like smoking, or heavily drinking. While something like smoking or drinking heavily may relieve tension, its actually doing a lot of harm to your body. Don't get me wrong a little bit of drinking can be beneficial, doing it a lot or heavily can destroy your liver. Find other things to do like writing or listening to music or going for a walk.

Hopefully you can stick with your 2017 goals. Remember your New Years Resolution doesn't have to be big or challenging, just make it specific to you and hopefully you can find some joy in it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
