For the first three or so weeks following the New Year you can expect to see many posts on social media about people declaring how they're going to change for the better, hence the whole "new year new me" trend. While I'm all for people bettering themselves and working towards goals I feel that sometimes the "new year new me" trend can actually bring people down. It can force you to look back at this past year and think about everything you did wrong or everything you didn't like about yourself. It can be in a way, kind of depressing.
Like I said, I'm 100% for people improving upon themselves and changing certain aspects of their lives. There's absolutely no shame in that whatsoever. I even have things that I want to improve on. I want to spend more time being positive and being there for the ones I love most.
I do think that while the new year brings upon change and bettering ourselves, I also think it should be a time to celebrate what we did accomplish and what we don't want to change about ourselves. We should think about the things that do make us great even when we also need to work on the things that might not be so great.
I suggest making a list of things that make you proud to be you or things that you never want to change. I find it important to never change everything about yourself. It can even be a silly list with things that just make you happy to be you.
The new year shouldn't be about stripping away everything about ourselves. It should be about improving upon what we already are or what we already have. It should be about setting realistic goals for yourself. If you know you struggle in school and achieving all A's might be near impossible for you, then don't make that a personal goal. Instead, make it a goal to try to improve your grades. It doesn't have to be all A's for you to feel satisfied. It's better to make goals that you can achieve instead of looking back on New Year's day and feeling like a failure.
With that being said,
