Ah here it is, after a long three hundred and sixty five days...2017.
Honestly, 2017, I welcome you with open arms. 2016 was a just a big fucking mess for everyone. If you don't know why 2016 is considered a mess, let's just remember all of these so-called "disasters" that happened this past year. From Brexit, to the tragedy that is Donald Trump, to all the the notable celebrity deaths, as well as many tragedies such as Aleppo, the shootings in Orlando, Harambe being killed, the Bastille terrorist attack in Nice, France, among multiple other events that were just plain awful, and if I were to name all of them, this article would probably be the length of a book.
2016 was like if a tornado was coming at you, but it was on fire, and it was filled with a bunch of snakes. It was that damn awful.
So with that being said, we are all pretty grateful to start off the new year fresh, and for many people, starting off the new year fresh also means New Year's resolutions. But as we all know, they can be pretty annoying too, especially when everyone decides to share their New Year's resolutions via social media. You would think that people would actually spice it up and change around their resolutions, but nah.
We see those same old resolutions every year like, "My New Year's resolution is to go on a diet and lose weight!" or "My new year resolution is to eat healthier!" or "My new year resolution is to make more money!" etc.
I'm not dissing the fact that people are setting goals for themselves, that's great, but if you said for the past five years that you're going to cut off junk food, let's face it honey, you probably need to get a new resolution! Of course, with New Year's resolutions, there's also the New Year's jokes that are to follow. I can already hear them now.
"I haven't taken a shower since last year!"
"I didn't eat any junk food since last year!"
*cues eye roll.*
Oh and let's not forget the infamous catch phrase everyone shouts during the first month of the new year, "New Year, New Me!"
So, cheers to the new year, but let's not get too carried away!
