Finally, resolutions you can keep!

New School Year Resolutions

1. Get rid of toxic people in your life.
This year is about you. Focus on yourself and who is going to bring you up everyday. Who will make your life brighter and full of more meaning. Yeah, it’s a lot easier said than done, but why would you want to spend time with people who don’t motivate your life positively.

2. Save Money.
Especially in college you are constantly going out with your friends for dinner. You can’t help it if you're popular. Try to have more nights in cooking dinner. Go shopping less and see what you actually need. You may have clothes in your closet that you totally forgot about.

3. Study. Study. Study.
In college we want to have fun, but it is so important to prioritize your time. Put your schoolwork first. Find certain times that you know you can go to the library or a coffee shop and study. This is your life; grades are most important as they reflect on your future career some day.

4. Detox.
It can be good to focus on not drinking and going out as much. You realize who your true friends are when alcohol and partying isn’t involved. Instead of feeling hungover, stay in once in a while so you wake up so refreshed. Yes, still go out with your friends, but also do activities that will benefit you in the long run.

5. Meet as many people as you can.
Now is the time to build connections with everyone you meet. You never know when a job opportunity will come up and you can reference that new friend you met that one time. College connections are ones you keep for the rest of your life, so start talking now.

6. Try something new.
You’ve always wanted to try zip lining or traveling to a place you’ve never been. Whatever it may be, go for it. You won’t regret it. Have an endless bucket list.

7. Focus on the big picture.
Don’t let little drama get in the way of your happiness. Don’t feed into backstabbing. Look at life as the glass is half full. There will be ups and downs, but life is a roller coaster. Drama won’t last forever, so prevent it from being a part of your life.

8. Go out of your comfort zone.
It could be something as simple as smiling at a stranger or buying the person behind you a coffee at Starbucks. Random acts of kindness will inspire others to want to make another person’s day better. So why not be the first to start the trend?

9. Be more consistent.
Keep up with your goals. If you are trying to be healthy, actually do it. Meet up with old friends and actually follow through. Making to-do lists will help you so much with this. Use your friends as motivation to help you follow through with the goals you have.

10. Have a fresh start.
Maybe there are some moments that you wish you could take back, but you can’t. Instead of getting down on yourself, learn from it and take the steps to make each day better. Look at this year as an entirely new you. Last year is in the past.

11. Get more involved.
Not only can you meet so many people, but staying active is healthy. Join a sorority or the lacrosse team. You can learn so much about yourself when you associate with people who also are passionate about the things you are.

12. Make every moment count.
These are the best years of your life, so live with no regrets!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
