Since 2010, the Little Words Project has been bringing a new trend to friendship bracelets. Little Words bracelets are the upscale version of the old-school homemade braided bracelets. Made of crystal beads interwoven with a meaningful word, these bracelets are meant to make a connection between girls everywhere and serve as simple reminders during the hardest times of just how great life can be.
The premise behind this creation is that each bracelet made will be passed on to girls who could use something to inspire them. Each bracelet comes with a gold tag with an ID number. The girl that is given the bracelet registers the ID number to begin tracking it. Once a girl wearing the bracelet feels like the word no longer resonates with her life, she passes it on to someone who can use the word more than she could. As the bracelet is passed on, the new owners are encouraged to keep registering it, so previous wearers can see how their inspiration has spread.
Simple items like these bracelets and the gesture that come with them are incredible statements to be made in a world where women are constantly trying to live up to society’s expectations. With all of that negative energy, a small token, like one of these bracelets, is exactly what’s needed to inspire a person to live their life their own way.
For me, I chose a bracelet with the word “Fearless.” This word resonated with me best. This is because it serves as a reminder to live each day without letting my fears and insecurities get to me. One day, after I feel like this special bracelet will resonate with someone else better than it will with me, I hope to pass it along to a girl who can be inspired by it as much as I have been in the short time I’ve owned it. By spreading inspiration with small words that can mean so much to someone, a spark can be lit inside them that could help them get through a tough time or inspire a new kind of confidence in themselves.
Making connections with others while spreading inspiration amongst girls everywhere is an incredible way to unite a group together. In a video made by Little Words Project found here, a girl holds a poster that reads, “It’s not how much love we give, but how much love we put into giving” – Mother Teresa. Having the ability to give a special gift to a person who can be impacted by it in a tremendous way is an incredibly special way to bond with a person, whether it is a close friend or a complete stranger.
Do your best to leave a little inspiration each day wherever you go, and encourage others to do the same, just like the creators of Little Words Project have done. Little Words and their story can be found on their website here.
