Never Take A Single Thing For Granted

Not even that beautiful rainbow.

Never Take A Single Thing For Granted
Amanda Amendola

A lot of us fail to realize how lucky we really are. We have family, we have people who put us on this Earth and would do anything and everything in their power for us, and we have friends, people who will pick us up from that party at 2 a.m. and help us through that horrifying breakup or tough time we are unfortunately going through.

We all have at least one roof to sleep under, food to eat and clothes to wear. There are people in this world that we live in who would die to have our lives. Literally, it is their dream to live like us someday and sometimes, we just soar through life, forgetting to realize how lucky we really are and how many people out there truly are praying for a life like ours. Sometimes we just need to sit back and think about all we are lucky enough to have.

First and foremost, appreciate the small moments of happiness because they are the very most important. That one hour of television you watched with your dad—be thankful for it. That day where you and your friends laughed so hard you practically got kicked out of the restaurant for it—be thankful for it. That house that you made thousands of memories in—be thankful for it. That doctors appointment that your mom took you to when she didn't need to—be thankful for it.

Be thankful for it all, good or bad. In the blink of an eye, something could happen and it could all be over. We all know that is sad, but true. The world is constantly changing. One day, everything is fine, and the next, the world is in turmoil.

We never know what is going to happen and that is why we need to remember the little things in our lives that we should be thankful for, the ones in our lives that matter most, and those days we shouldn't have taken for granted. We can't let life get in the way of letting our loved ones know that we love them and are thankful for each and every single thing they have done for us, and we most definitely cannot take for granted the moments that matter most.

We as millennials are and should be having tons of fun. We should be social, outgoing and invested in our academics to our fullest possible extent (even when it feels somewhat tough to do so), but we also need to remember how we got there and who got us through it every step of the way. Before the socials, day-longs and formals, we need to always remember to take a step back and remember why we are able to do what we do for a living. Every day, we all should, at the very least, send a text letting our loved ones know how much we love them and how we haven't forgotten about them.

If you are already doing this, and I'm sure a large percentage of the people reading this are, then kudos to you, but I also know there are tons of people who probably haven't taken that step back in a little while and desperately need to. Trust me, there is nothing worse than no longer being able to say how you feel, so don't wait until it is too late to tell your loved ones how much love and gratitude you hold in your heart for them. Don't let the minute that you see all of the things you have be the moment that you realize they are all already gone.

Please remember to take a moment, today and every day, to tell your family and friends how much you love them. Remember to enjoy and truly realize how precious each and every moment is with them. Be grateful for all of the blessings in your lives because life is finite and life is fragile and just because something is there one day, doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be there the next. Cherish all that you have, each and every day, and live life to the absolute fullest. We are so very lucky, and we need to take advantage of that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
