Construction isn’t just a passing phase for us who live here in Denton. At the University of North Texas, construction is like the Texas heat, something we hate every day, but we wouldn’t know how to live without it. Whether it’s a surprise street being closed every other week, or your go-to route to Chick-Fil-A being blocked, orange traffic cones are the absolute worst thing to see mid day.
Perhaps we’re under-valuing our short, orange friends. Walking to class would feel empty if you didn’t run into a traffic cone every time. They’re kind of our unspoken best friends. They hear all of our phone conversations, and can be better listeners than even our best friends. Sorority girls everywhere envy their uniformity, and let’s be honest, we wish we looked that good in orange. Not to be forgotten are the pop-up fences and beautiful neon orange spray paint, never leading to a pot of gold and the end of the construction rainbow.
Honestly, we’re all ready for the Union. Rawlins is a great dorm, but they don't serve delicious food, and luckiy we aren't all forced to live there. We're ready to be able to walk to class without interruption. Can our home sweet University finish one project at a time, or is the endless construction suppose to serve as a symbol of perseverance, to inspire students? Maybe one day we'll see this University in all it's glory, in on piece, shiny and strong, but until then we live in the progress of building bigger and better things for future generations.
