It isn’t the New Year, but I believe that it is always the time to create resolutions and improve yourself. After an amazing first year of college, I’ve decided to make this summer a summer full of self-improvement in the areas that I want to work on. I have created some summer resolutions for myself, and my hope is that some of you readers out there will take my resolutions, shift, change, and add to them as you please in order to apply them to your lives, and stick to them, as I will be sticking to mine. Here they are:
Workout more: Getting myself to the gym can be a struggle, but I try to make it a point to get there even if I am feeling extremely lazy (which is more often than not) because the feeling after a workout is like no other. Even if I am hesitant to go workout at first, and feel like I would much rather curl up in bed and watch a show, once I get there and get going, I fall into my groove and am always happy that I went. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to the gym, started to workout, and wished I hadn’t gone. My plan this summer is to go to the gym five times a week, with rest days on Saturday and Sunday.
Eat well: It’s easy to get off track and eat unhealthy while at college (especially with multiple Dutch Bros coffee shops just five minutes away), so this summer I am going to eat healthy, get into a habit of it, and bring my healthy eating habits with me to school in the fall. I find that once you cut something bad out of your diet and don’t eat/drink it for a while, you eventually begin to not crave it, or even want it, as much.
Focus on my family and friends: I’ve been blessed with such a loving family and amazing friends, so this summer I am going to do my best to show them that I love them and how much I appreciate what they do for me on a daily basis. I’m going to get breakfast or lunch with my dad as often as I can, tell my friends how much I miss them, spend time with my mom, visit my sister, etc.
Work, work, work: This summer I want to get a job. I find that during the summer I have a lot of free time, which can get boring, so I want to occupy my time with a job that I enjoy and like to do, and make some money.
Sitting down and listing a few resolutions for the summer is a great activity to do, but the most important part, and the real challenge, is continuing to work towards and achieve them even after the summer is over. Use the summer to create a habit for yourself, and continue pursuing your resolutions even further when summer comes to an end. Good luck!
