Most people automatically assume that just because my parents pay for everything I do and I've never had to work before that I am a spoiled brat. Which is true, I am a spoiled brat, but I am grateful for what they do for me. I am not lazy. I do admit I have it a lot easier than a lot of other people, but I respect everyone who has to pay for their college on their on. I am proud that they can balance all that because I know I would not be able to handle that.
My family is not rich. My parents work their butts off to be able to pay for everything I do. My dad works 40 hours a week plus overtime and is on call 24/7.
My parents do give me a budget. My parents tell me what I can spend each week and I stick to what they tell me. Yes, I may get more of an allowance than other college kids but I'm glad they don't mind spending a little extra on my daily Chinese and sushi habit.
I hate the way people look at me when I tell them I don't pay for anything. My parents are proud of me and what I have accomplished in life so far. They don't want me to stress over having I pay back student loans so they pay for my college in cash so I don't have to worry.
They do know how to tell me no. Yes, I do get a lot of what I want because they want to make sure I am happy while I am in school but I know it does not last forever and I will have to pay for myself one day. But at the end of the day, they do have to tell me no sometimes on my list of wants.
I hate hearing sorority is so much extra money for them. I know it is a lot of money that's the main reason I was not going to rush, they want me to get the full college experience. They are the people that encouraged me to join Alpha Sigma Alpha.
It is the best gift they could ever give me. By them paying for everything for me, it gives me time focus on my schooling and to be involved on campus. If they did not pay for everything I wouldn't be able to be in my sorority with some of my best friends I probably would have never even meet.
