My Horrible Homeschooling Experience

What they say is true, definitely not for everyone.

My Horrible Homeschooling Experience

I decided to start homeschooling when I moved to Horn Lake area, which doesn’t have the best reputation for my county. I was sad I couldn’t go back to my old school with all my friends, and I was tired of starting new schools. So I took the opportunity to home school until I thought I would eventually move back to Desoto Central. Spoiler Alert, never happened. God had other plans for me I guess and I’m not complaining either! Everything happens for a reason. Another factor was that I had lost my father the previous year and was trying to find my ground again.

So I started 8th grade year at my house, learning through Life-pac. WORST DECISION EVER. The life-pac curriculum definitely didn’t work for me, at all. It’s like reading a bunch of cold reads and answering silly questions to be blunt. It just wasn’t what my brain was used to, on an educational level. Completely doing a 180 on my learning style, shook me. For some reason though I stuck with Life-pac until my 9-10th year. My mom didn’t know much about different curriculum so we just dealt with it.

Now I will say this, my social life did take a drastic change when I started homeschooling for obvious reasons. However I did become more involved in church which helped my relationship with God immensely. It wasn’t like I was isolated, I had friends to talk to. IT IS STILL LONELY THOUGH. Trust me if you don’t have a job, or a car; you are bound to become lonely. Especially if you’re an extroverted soul. Not being around a classroom of people constantly is a whole new atmosphere. Although there are homeschooled groups that I am now aware of, classes to take in a type of school, and other groups for homeschoolers. With having a working mother, and my siblings busy it was just hard to be involved in. And to be honest I didn’t know much about it.

Anyways I finally found curriculum that worked with me. For example teaching textbooks for Algebra courses, Apologia for Science(even though there’s no way to make science more relaxed), and my all time favorite Notgrass for social studies. I loved Notgrass, probably even better than school teachings. Nevertheless, I've always liked history, these books are super interesting.

Now everyone says homeschoolers have it easy. HA okay, yeah sure. Whatever helps you sleep! No; not one bit true, for me at least. The amount of self-control you must have is cunning, and teaching yourself is not one bit easy. Who am I supposed to ask for help when I don’t understand something? LITERALLY MYSELF. If you’re an organized person you better just through all that out the window. My life was a mess when I was trying to figure out all this. Now I’m sure there was probably some people I could have reached out for help, but Im stubborn so this makes it even worse. To say the least WOW am I glad that this is my last year in high school. Im so ready to be done, and be back in a classroom.

HA but that’s the funny part you think your done with stressing about high school, then you realize you gotta make a 21-25 to get scholarships, and entries into college! OH the joy. ACT is the most bogus test out there, it’s a technique test, not knowledge. Our education system is bogus. my life is bogus. Now I’m ranting.

Anyways, Homeschooling made me realize that I was not getting enough education as I wanted for myself. I’ve had many low moments thinking I was just gonna be stupid, and not gonna ever succeed to anything. Which is not true, homeschooling is just frankly not for everyone. Especially around this time of the year when all my friends are back in school, working, and life just gets busy. Maintaining a social life is quit difficult. If you’re anything like me I have to keep my mind busy constantly it seems. I have found a hobby and become quit impressed by myself in it. So there are perks of learning at home, but it’s totally true when they say homeschooling isn’t for everyone.

PROS:

getting to sleep in

schedule is flexible

learning at your own pace

christian homeschooling: getting closer to God

CONS:

crying a lot

motivating yourself constantly

learning by yourself

lonely

expensive

makes you feel lazy

I’ll just stop now before my reasons become unjustly.

I must clarify though, just because it doesn’t work for me doesn’t mean it wont work for you. Everyone’s learning technique is different. I know plenty of brilliant homeschoolers, I just don’t have the knowledge and self gratitude for it.

As that being said so I don’t get sued for some reason unknown, Life-pac works for other people. I know a few people who love it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
