A reflection on recent events.

When we read a significant event in history, such as the start of World War I with the shooting of Franz Ferdinand, or even the Twin Towers attack (though I was alive, I barely remember the impact it had on the United States and the world at the time). For the millennial generation, and other generations currently alive as well, our significant event was the presidential election of Donald Trump.

I am upset by this election for many reasons. I supported Hillary Clinton as a candidate even when Bernie Sanders was one of the prospective front runners for the DNC. Honestly, I agreed with most of what Bernie Sanders said, and while many of my friends, and fellow peers of my generation supported him, I believed that of the older generation: he is too liberal for the United States, and he wouldn't beat Trump in the Presidential Election. I believed Hillary had the experience in the White House, as well as experience with foreign policy (I'm sorry, but do you all understand how many civilians have died under the command of politicians?), as that is one of the fields that is most concerning to American politics today. Who knows what could have happened today? I surely bit my tongue finding out the news.

I'll never forget the day of the elections. Joking with my friends and fellow Hillary supporters about how there's no way Donald Trump could win the election. I remember seeing the polls coming in. He started off with a lead, and Hillary, at one point, was even ahead of him. Then more and more states came flooding in. My anxiety built. I started seeing the huge lead Trump had on Hillary, and I started becoming even more anxious by the second. Watching with a friend in the student center, we became even more nervous. Eventually, when Trump had a huge lead, we decided to leave and go to sleep, as it would all probably be better in the morning, and Hillary would win the election.

I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I realized I didn't plug my phone in to charge overnight. I turned it on. "Donald Trump is elected President..." I saw on my notifications. Considering I was still in mid sleep mode, I figured it was just a nightmare I was having, and went back to sleep. I woke up for class the next morning, and then I saw even more articles, all from different news sources. I felt sick to my stomach seeing the name of a reality tv star, and one of the most important leaders in the world in the same sentence. I immediately collapsed, and started crying. I called my parents to tell them how I felt, and I could barely get words out to them through the deep breaths of sobbing. I was not only upset, but disappointed in politics, voters and my faith. I didn't think this could ever happen, and what upset me the most are the reasons why. "She's not a good candidate." "I just don't like her." "Hillary is a rapist." And the icing on the cake: the 11,000 people that wrote in , "Harambe," instead of voting for a listed candidate on the ballot.

I can't say it's an excuse, but my confidence and focus has taken a turn since finding out this news. Heading into the last week of the term, I've found it hard to focus on my classes and major assignments, when all I can really think about is how my vote didn't matter, as the ignorance of others blinded them from reality: We have a non-experienced, childish, ignorant, unintelligient, failure of a man as our President-Elect. We went from 8 years with an African-American President, to a reality tv-show host who was replaced. We have an accused rapist, of women and children. A man that has been caught bragging about sexual assaulting a woman.

How dare all of you that voted for him, or even try to shut up those of us that want to express our feelings on him now. If you want me to shut up, get him out of office. Give me a more qualified, caring, intelligent, and successful candidate to run our country (don't get me started on the Vice President). And I'm sorry, future generations, that this is what you're going to have to experience for the next four years. Hopefully, it's cut short, otherwise, this will surely be an interesting term. #NotMyPresident

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
