To My Big, Upon Graduation

To My Big, Upon Graduation

Biggie,

This is it. I can't believe you're moving on to bigger and better things in life—making money, kicking butt and taking names. Doesn't it seem like yesterday that I walked into the circle of sisters for my Big/Little reveal, and you blew out the candle to welcome me into the family? How can it be that two years have passed since I was a new member and looked to you to show me what to do in almost all aspects of my college life? Words can't describe how incredibly grateful I am for your guidance since the moment you became my Big, and I want to say thank you for everything.

Thank you for being yourself and teaching me that it doesn't matter what other people think of you. Thank you for always holding your head high and carrying yourself with respect so that I knew what was expected of me as a sister of Delta Gamma. Thank you for sharing a plethora of Harry Potter-related memes, lists, articles and quizzes on my Facebook timeline so everybody came to know exactly how obsessed I am. Thank you for always being on call when I had a few drinks and just wanted to talk to somebody on the phone. Thank you for reminding me that boys are dumb, and I don't need one in my life to be happy, but never condemning me for having a Tinder and crushing on total jerks. Thank you for bringing me sushi and chocolate, and forcing me to vent after I had the worst week of my life and was ready to go into a serious state of depression. Thank you for understanding my obsession with Broadway and Disney. Thank you for remembering that my favorite is Phantom of the Opera, not Wicked and for being one of the only people in my life who knows all the words to "Colors of the Wind."

Thank you for encouraging me to grow in my faith and lifestyle as your conservative Catholic Little and teaching me Jewish prayers, because I really enjoyed learning about your faith as well. Biggie, thank you for having my back when I got into full-on arguments with people about politics, and for being on my side. I will never forget the night when you and I tag-teamed that boy and debated him about the possibility of an Independent candidate winning the Presidency. It's weird, but those are memories that I cherish.

Thank you for bringing me into the best family in the chapter and expanding your kingdom by taking more Littles. I know that I bust your chops constantly about making me share your attention, but I love my Delta Gamma siblings. They're some of the best friends that I've made in the chapter, and I absolutely loved becoming a twin right off the bat. You gave me a partner in crime in my new member class and then a web of support when you took again. Thank you for giving me those automatic friends with whom I could go out to eat, cuddle, laugh and complain.

Big, I know that you and I aren't the closest Big/Little pair in the chapter, but I couldn't picture anybody else by my side. Although there were some things that I could do without (ruining my love for dolphins by sending creepy memes, maybe?), but you made my DG experience special and I loved it all. I can't believe I won't have you five minutes away anymore, but I know that you'll own New York City soon, just like you took Rutgers by storm.

Like your senior superlative said, you are without a doubt the one who is Most Likely to Rule the World. And I'll be here, Big, with a poster in my hand cheering you on in whatever it is you choose to pursue throughout your life. I'm proud to be your Little, and I love you dearly. Congrats on graduation.

ITB,
Cecilia, aka Middle Little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
