Imagine your best friend in the entire world. They make you laugh, smile, and even cry, in a good or bad ways. For me, that person is my mother. It might seem strange to say that my mom is who I consider to be my best friend, but it's the truth. Obviously, she has always been there for me, since she sort of has to be. But she's been there for me in more ways than your average, run of the mill, parent. I tell her everything and that's not an exaggeration. She knows who my friends are, what I talk to them about, how my days go while I'm away at college, everything. It would be an understatement to say that sometimes we get on each other's nerves but we always manage to forgive each other immediately. I really don't know where I would be if she wasn't here to support me.
All those things are what good mothers should already do but she does what best friends do, too. Her favorite pastime is embarrassing me. Most parents enjoy this activity, but I think she likes it a little bit too much. For example, a few weeks ago, we were out grocery shopping. While we were in the parking lot I said that I thought a certain employee was cute, not realizing that he happened to be ~thirty feet away. I tried to run and hide in the car but she wouldn't unlock the doors. I was absolutely mortified at the time but in retrospect, it was absolutely hilarious. The best part about being best friends with my mom is that we basically have the same personality. That might sound like it would be annoying, but we understand each other. Especially when it comes to our sense of humor. We can make the weirdest of jokes without making the other feel uncomfortable.
Her birthday is this week so I thought it would be nice to dedicate this article to her. I'm sure at this point she is bawling her eyes out and smiling at the same time. So, let me end this article with a thank you. Thank you for being my mom, thank you for being here for me, thank you for listening to me talk way more than I should, and thank you for putting up with my shenanigans.
I love you, Mommy.
Happy Birthday.
