Growing up, I always was close to my aunt Terry. She was always the "fun" aunt, the aunt that I loved to be around and go shopping with. Every weekend in middle school and high school, I always looked forward to heading out with her to the malls and spending time with her. Also being my Godmother, she never failed to make me feel loved just like I was her own. She was like a mother figure to me along with my momma and my grandma.
When I was younger, I never really appreciated everything she did for me, not because I was unappreciative, but because I didn't really understand the unconditional love behind all of her actions. You see, my aunt Terry doesn't have children of her own so my brothers and I are basically her kids that she can spoil, but send home at the end of the day. My aunt was always selfless in any action that she took and one of the hardest working people that I know. Now that I am grown up and away at college, I have truly come to understand the love and support that she has given me throughout the years and especially in college.
She has shown me the true definition of selflessness in more ways than one. She has become like a second mother to me and has always been there to hear me out when I am having that little disagreement with my parents. Here are five reasons I am grateful for my favorite aunt and why you should be grateful for yours, or that person in your life that has shown you unconditional love like my Aunt Terry has shown me.
1. She always has my back.
Whether I am right or wrong, she always sees the good in me. When I am wrong, she calls me out and holds me responsible for my actions but when I am right, she has no problem affirming me.
2. She is selfless in every action that she exhibits.
Whether I need her help with advice, financially, or something with my everyday life, she always comes through for me with no questions asked and expecting nothing in return.
3. She puts everyone before herself.
No matter the situation that she is placed in, she is constantly thinking of everyone else and making sure that they are OK before she is OK. That's amazing to me because sometimes it's hard to put yourself last in certain situations.
4. She is one of my biggest supporters.
From cheerleading in elementary school to sports in middle school to theater in high school to sorority life in college, she is ALWAYS supporting me. When life gets tough and I want to quit everything because it all seems like too much, she always is there to reassure me to look at the positive in everything I do.
5. She is an extremely hard worker.
Working for one of the top corporate places in Texas, my aunt is the prime example of hard work. She has worked extremely hard to be where she is with no help from anyone but of course, Our God. I look up to her for everything she has worked for to get to the place that she is at now.
Aunt Terry, I love you and thank you for being you, ALWAYS. I pray that God continues to guide you every day and that he helps you with any trials and tribulations that come your way. Thank you for being such an important person in my life and the best aunt that I could ever ask for.
