My 7 Favorite Things About Being Sick

Two weeks into school and I've already gotten my first cold. And because my brain feels like it's been stuffed full of cotton, I can't seem to focus on anything but my cold at the moment. So naturally, I decided to write about it so I can achieve at least some kind of acceptance with my failing health. So here's a list of my favorite things to do while I'm sick.

1. Stay in bed

There is no better excuse to stay in bed than feeling unwell. And my bed is very comfortable. I wish I was in it right now...

2. Watching Movies

When I was little I used to watch all of Star Wars whenever I was sick. The mind-numbing action based movies always put me in a good mood.

3. Going to sleep early

The best feeling in the world is being able to enjoy going to sleep early without any feeling of guilt.

4. Comfort food

I don't know about you, but I think sickness is the perfect time to pull out the comfort food. Give me the potatoes, the popcorn, and the tea. Whatever has plenty of salt and no flavor to make my stomach hurt will do.

5. My brain forcibly reminding me to give up on homework

The mind-numbing feeling of cotton balls in my head prevent me from even thinking coherently. Why would I even bother with homework beyond what's necessary? Unfortunately, the necessary homework takes me about twice as long to do.

6. Not being able to go for a run

Because anyone who knows me knows I am always looking for an excuse not to run. Why would I ever want to stick to my weekly workout schedule when I can just stay at home instead?

7. Not having any energy at all

Who needs energy? That's for people who actually try to get stuff done. Why would I want to do that?

OK, maybe this didn't make me feel any better. Hopefully, I feel better soon, though.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
