Shocked. Upset. Scared. Anxious. Disappointment
On November 8, 2016 around 6:10 am I got to vote for the the very 1st time. Not only was I super excited to actually go out and vote but I was more excited knowing that my vote was actually going to help select the next leader of the free world. Watching the election play through was intense, first the state was blue now it was red and then at one point it was stripes. To be honest this whole election has been full of surprises and has been described as voting for the lesser evil. Watching the election was very stressful and it was a night that required lots and lots and LOTS of wine. I did not want to look away from the TV just incase I missed any updates. I was literally glued to my seat and could feel my anxiety getting worse because I didn't know what was going to happen. One of these candidates was going to be my president, the person who I'm suppose to look up to and who was going to basically decide how my future was going to work out.
While I can agree with most people that the two candidates are not the best, at the end of this election somebody is going to be the president of the United States. The one thing that I have come to learn through the whole presidential election was that everybody has an opinion. We live in a country where we have the right to vote, we have the right to free speech and we ultimately have the right to voice out our opinions and to fight for what we believe in. That is what makes America great, our freedom, our diversity and our culture.
I went to bed around 4 am when it had been confirmed who had won, in all honesty I could have gone to bed around 2 am but I had hoped that the numbers I was seeing weren't true and it was just the sleep deprivation finally taking a toll on me. I am all for change and I do hope for the best for this divided nation. While I care strongly for one supporter, I also have to respect the people who are rooting for the other candidate. In the end we all have different opinions and we are all fighting for different matters. What matters the most is that people care about their future and they are passionate to fight for what they believe in.
And as a great women has once said, "This loss hurts, but please, never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it."
We have selected the 45th President of the United States and now it will be up to him to bring this nation together. Even though I am not happy with the outcome of the presidential election, I do not wish for him to fail. Because if he fails then America fails, we now have to figure out whats next for us. How can we keep on moving forward rather than going backwards. I'll admit that I was looking forward for this election to finally end since we've been hearing the same things, but now with this type of outcome I think we really have to think if this is truly the end of this ongoing war or is this just the beginning. Not knowing the answer is a bit scary for me I'll admit. While I now have come to terms on who the clear winner is he still does not represent me. I hope to god that he proves everyone wrong again and will make America great again but in my eye he is still #notmypresident.
