The Best Movies That Describe The Past 100 Years

I’m someone who loves movies with a passion. I'm also someone who always feels like they belong in a different era. It changes every day, but whenever I watch a movie about a particular decade I always feel nostalgic to go back there even though I never once saw those days. There are many movies about specific time periods so I decided to make a list of my favorite films that each tell a story about these decades from the last 100 years.

1. 1910s: "Titanic"

The classic tale of rags and riches beautifully highlights the simple but dramatic time of the early 1910s.

2. 1920s: "Midnight in Paris"

A film about time traveling into the roaring twenties included with Hemingway, jazz and a whole lot of dancing with booze.

3. 1930s: "It's A Wonderful Life"

The 1930s were a time when family meant everything. This movie shows how complicated life can be when the economy crashed and how far someone will go for their life back.

4. 1940s: "A League of Their Own"

A truly feel good film about the forties, feminism and baseball.

5. 1950s: "Grease"

Greasers, Pink Ladies, drive-ins, diners and a classic sock hop; this iconic movie has everything about the teenage years rolled up into one singing masterpiece.

6. 1960s: "Across the Universe"

A truly unappreciated film that showcases highlights from the 1960s into another singing masterpiece: the Beatles, counterculture kids, the Vietnam War, drugs, rock & roll -- it has everything!!

7. 1970s: "Almost Famous"

If you never wanted to be a teenager in the seventies you will after seeing this movie. Though I don’t think every teen was a groupie to a famous rock band or a teenage journalist for Rolling Stone magazine. Either way, this movie has the music and fashion to make me want to groove back in time to these hippie days.

8. 1980s: "The Breakfast Club"

The eighties will always have my heart so any film from this decade makes me want to have grown up in it. The breakfast club shows one thing that the others don’t though and that is how simple the eighties really were. All anyone cared about was music and friendship.

9. 1990s: "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"

The best coming of age film of all time in my opinion. It takes you back to the nineties with numerous amounts of mix tapes, typewriters and plaid.

10. 2000s: "Mean Girls"

I can't think of any other film that showcases being a teenager in the early 2000s as well as "Mean Girls" does. A time before Facebook and Twitter, the only way these girls communicate and sabotaged each other was via flip phone.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
