If you are like me, you love movies, love knowing about current box office hits, love being up to date with all things Hollywood. If you are still like me, you barely have time to go to the bathroom, let alone sit down in a theater and watch a three-hour movie. So, I have become a professional movie trailer watcher. There's nothing like a 30-minute trailer sesh to get your movie mash-up, film fix. But, beware -- there are good, bad, and ugly trailers. You could find yourself 1:30 in, hoping to God the trailer turns around when in fact, you have wondered into the weird movies starring washed up Disney Channel actors. It's a toss-up really.
There are three definitive rankings of movie trailers: a great trailer followed by a great movie, an interesting trailer that lends itself to a terrible movie, and lastly, an all-around horrible trailer. In the great abyss that is YouTube, you can easily find yourself lost. So here are three from each category to help you stay on track. I hope they lead you down a path of excitement and procrastination.
Category 1: Great Trailer, Great Movie.
All around, well-done. I respect the person that you choose to be.
1. About Time - Crying.
2. The Social Network - Into it.
3. That Awkward Moment - Yas Michael B. (and Zac and Miles).
Category 2: Great Trailer, Bad Movie.
Snaps for the marketing teams of these movies, but it was honestly just rude of them.
1. Dear John - Nicholas Sparks strikes again.
2. Endless Love - Maybe.
3. Catfish - Wut?!
Category 3: Terrible Trailer, Terrible Movie.
What were you thinking?
1. The Bling Ring - Wait, what?
2. Don Jon - I liked the song.
3. The Final Girls - Please no.
Now that I've got you started, hopefully, you appreciate the wonderful world that is move trailers. Thanks to the new auto-start feature on YouTube, you never even need to click on another one, they've already chosen it for you. What's bad is when you thought you didn't have time for a movie and two hours down the trailerroad you realize you really screwed up. I fully support and encourage this behavior. Watch on!
