It’s hard to get tired of watching The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo or Frozen, but what about the hidden treasures of Disney that don’t get as much recognition? Here are the 5 Disney movies you should watch during your next movie marathon.
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)
Although this movie may not be what you think of when you think of classic Disney films, anyone with a soft-spot for pets will love this childhood favorite. The adventures of Chance the Bulldog, Shadow the Golden Retriever, and Sassy the Himalayan cat will remind you why dogs (and cats) are man's best friend.
Treasure Planet (2002)
This Disney film puts a thrilling twist to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island. In a world where aliens and creatures live side-by-side in outer space, Jim Hawkins sets sail on an incredible adventure traveling among the cosmos. Any Sci-Fi fan will appreciate the futuristic technology and scenery requiring a stretch of the imagination. Even those who typically into the more Sci-Fi films (like me) will love this action-packed movie, and Morph, who happens to be one of the cutest characters ever created.
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Look out boys, she's coming through! Tiana is a hardworking woman who dreams of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans, but trouble comes along when she kisses a frog prince and an unexpected outcome occurs. This twist on the classic fairy tale will lead you on a magical journey through the bayou, with a jazz and soul-filled soundtrack as upbeat and fun as the city itself.
Lilo & Stitch (2002)
I may be biased because this is a personal favorite of mine, but the hilarious and heartwarming adventure of Lilo & Stitch is vastly underrated. Lilo wishes for an angel to complete her broken family, but instead receives the friendship of Stitch, a destructive yet lovable abomination from another galaxy. The soundtrack, a mixture of original music and classic tunes by Elvis Presley, and the beautiful Hawaiian scenery will make you want to ride the Hawaiian roller coaster ride. This movie will remind you what "ohana" is all about.
Brother Bear (2003)
Tell everybody you're on your way to watch Brother Bear because this movie has to be next on your list. The story of Kenai and Koda will both enchant you and . When Kenai is magically transformed into a bear after a tragic incident, he must learn the true meaning of love and brotherhood before he becomes human again. This movie will both pull on your heart strings and make you laugh- the perfect movie to complete any movie marathon.
It's pretty safe to say that all Disney movies are worth watching, but these films deserve a little more recognition. Next time you're scrolling through Netflix ready to watch Mulan again, consider one of these classic, yet underrated films.
