25 Disney Channel Original Movies You Probably Forgot About

If there's one thing that can bring a generation together it's reminiscing upon our greatest childhood memories. I think we can all agree that Disney Channel has recently taken a turn for the worse, but that shouldn't dispel the once amazing Disney Channel we've all grown to love and miss.

Personally, Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOM) were an essential part of my life growing up and they really shaped my childhood. I'll never forget the feeling of watching my favorite DCOM on a Friday night with all my friends at a middle school sleepover -- all the celeb crushes, exaggerated drama and of course all the catchy songs to go along with it all.

I'm not afraid to admit that I still have dreams of introducing the newest DCOM premiere while drawing Mickey Mouse in the corner of the screen and you're lying to yourself if you say you've never secretly wanted to, too. Believe it or not, there are DCOMs other than "Halloweentown" and "High School Musical," and I'm here to shed some light on these hidden gems.

Here are 25 DCOMs that you probably forgot about, in order from newest to oldest, saving the best buried treasures for last.

1. "Read It and Weep" (2006)

One word: ZAP! The Panabaker sisters deliver a memorable performance in this DCOM based on a teen's private journal and super cool alter ego. And who can forget Jordan Pruitt's angsty song, "Outside Looking In"? If you don't remember it, I guarantee you will once you hear it, and it will bring back all the memories of awkward middle school days.

2. "Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior" (2006)

Brenda Song's character of Wendy Wu kicked major ass in this DCOM. Not only did this movie provide a fierce heroin, but it also exposed the younger generations to Japanese culture.

3. "Cow Belles" (2006)

Another pair of Disney-famous sisters, Aly and AJ Michalka, star in this classic riches-to-rags DCOM. Two spoiled rich sisters lose everything, and their dad forces them into summer jobs at the family dairy -- insert romantic subplot and voila! Classic Disney plot line.

4. "Life is Ruff" (2005)

Kyle Massey stars as a 13-year-old boy obsessed with his comic book collections and schemes to enter the dog competition for money. Little did he know the great bond he'd form with his adopted dog, Tyco. I mean, who doesn't love a movie with a cute golden lab that can ride a skateboard!

5. "Go Figure" (2005)

This DCOM is extremely underrated, which is unfortunate because it is a true feel-good family film. It's a classic story of a girly figure skater forced into playing for the hockey team as she battles stereotypes while following her dreams (and of course the happy ending of her going to the Olympics).

6. "Buffalo Dreams" (2005)

This DCOM follows the heartwarming friendship of two boys from totally different backgrounds who come together to save the endangered buffalo. Not only does this movie feature a super cute main character to attract all the tween girls' hearts; it actually teaches about a lot of Navajo tribe traditions and Native American culture.

7. "Now You See It..." (2005)

"Now You See It..." is another great movie starring the queen of DCOMs, Aly Michalka, and the dreamy Johnny Pacar. It follows the making of a reality show to find the next great magician (why isn't this a real show yet?) and it turns out Danny actually has magical powers. Through all the drama and sabotage, this movie still makes you want to believe in magic, and the catchy cover of "Do You Believe In Magic?" by Aly definitely helps.

8. "Stuck in the Suburbs" (2004)

Before Taran Killam's days on SNL, he played teen heartthrob Jordan Cahill in this memorable DCOM alongside Kay Panabaker and Brenda Song. This movie embodies every young girl's fantasy of coincidentally running into the biggest pop star and totally falling for each other. I could definitely see a remake with Justin Bieber being a big success.

9. "Going to the Mat" (2004)

For some reason, everyone forgets about this amazing DCOM. It's about a blind high school outcast who tries out for the wrestling team and triumphs; a truly inspirational film about overcoming adversity. And Zero from "Holes" is in it, alongside Wayne Brady.

10. "Pixel Perfect" (2004)

This was definitely my favorite DCOM of all time and I'm not ashamed to admit that I still have the soundtrack. This movie stars Ricky Ullman from "Phil of the Future" (and one of my first celebrity crushes) who creates a humanoid hologram for their band. He later falls for this seemingly perfect hologram as his best friend watches jealously from afar. "Pixel Perfect" is a great movie about accepting who you are and following your heart, accompanied with lots of catchy tunes like "Nothing's Wrong With Me".

11. "Full-Court Miracle" (2003)

This DCOM centers around a group of young Jewish basketball players searching for a coach to help them get their game back. It's actually based on a true story, making it all the more inspirational.

12. "Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off" (2003)

In this movie, Eddie followed his dreams over his father's before Troy Bolton made it cool. While his father pressured him into playing baseball, Eddie found his true passion for cooking through his home economics class. And of course let's not forget about the purple goop and guest star Bobby Flay.

13. "The Even Stevens Movie" (2003)

Everyone was ecstatic to find out their favorite Disney Channel family was finally going to have their own movie, and it did not disappoint. It follows the family through a plot twist of reality TV shows on an island and, of course... Beans. Hey! Even Shia LaBeouf enjoyed rewatching it.

14. "A Ring of Endless Light" (2002)

This DCOM centers on a young girl who discovers she can telepathically communicate with dolphins as she helps her friend with a research project. An alliance forms between three teens as they attempt to expose a group of men illegally trapping and killing dolphins. I'll admit I used to replay this movie in the bathtub with my barbies -- that's how old it is. And let's not forget about Jared Padalecki -- he's definitely not too hard on the eyes.

15. "Gotta Kick It Up!" (2002)

Tres palabras: Si se puede! This movie is based on a true story of a Latina dance team overcoming societal obstacles and following their talent. America Ferrera delivers a memorable performance in this DCOM.

16. "Cadet Kelly" (2002)

Hillary Duff stars in this DCOM based on a young girly-girl's struggles fitting in at military school. This movie helps dispel all the gender stereotypes and empowers women by letting them know anything is possible. I'm sure feminists absolutely love this movie. Ever since watching it, I've always wanted to learn how to twirl a gun like the final performance.

17. "Double Teamed" (2002)

This classic DCOM focuses on twins forced into playing basketball by their father in hopes of obtaining scholarships to college. It highlights the struggles of high school teens as well as the complex relationship of twins. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it.

18. "The Luck of the Irish" (2001)

I was absolutely ecstatic when I turned on the TV this past Saint Patrick's Day and found that this movie was playing on Disney Channel. And yes, I did stay up til 3 a.m. to watch the entire thing shamelessly. Who doesn't love a movie about a leprechaun that plays basketball? Only Disney Channel can pull off a plot line like this.

19. "Motocrossed" (2001)

This DCOM taught kids everywhere the most fundamental lesson of life -- girls can do anything guys can do, and they usually do it better. As a girl disguises herself as her twin brother to compete in her true love of motocross, a truly inspirational story unfolds.

20. "Phantom of the Megaplex" (2000)

Unfortunately, this seriously underrated Halloween-themed DCOM took a backseat to "Halloweentown" in terms of popularity, but it's my favorite Disney Halloween movie of all time. In addition to the eye candy main character, this movie used to freak me out every October as Disney played their movie marathons all month long. I can still remember stuffing my face with Halloween candy as I sat and watched this classic DCOM.

21. "Model Behavior" (2000)

Not only does this movie emulate every girl's dreams of swapping lives with a supermodel, it also stars Justin Timberlake circa early 2000s. What more could you want? It's hard to believe this phenomenal DCOM was released 16 years ago. Feel old yet?

22. "Johnny Tsunami" (1999)

Surf's up in this forgotten gem of a DCOM. Johnny is forced to leave his tropical home in Hawaii and adapt to the stark climate change of snowy Vermont. He goes from surfer to snowboarder in this gnarly film.

23. "Smart House" (1999)

If this movie didn't cause you to fear technology and its overwhelming power, I don't know what will. This DCOM features great technology gone totally rogue, although I low-key would love some of the features the house had before Pat went crazy, especially the pop-up food.

24. "The Thirteenth Year" (1999)

"The Thirteenth Year" is arguably one of the best DCOMs ever made. A tween's transition from boy to merman uncovers his true roots in this shocking tale of scales. Could you imagine turning into a mermaid instead of going through puberty? I'd like to live in that world.

25. "Brink!" (1998)

And as promised, I saved one of the best for last. I can almost guarantee that you forgot about "Brink!" This DCOM from 1998 follows a group of in-line skaters through rivalry and tough competition.

Well, there you have it folks! 25 forgotten Disney Channel Original Movies that deserve to resurface and regain fame. I think we can all agree that there should definitely be an entire network devoted to playing all these old DCOMs to save us from the stressful reality of college life. Although they may not have the most critically-acclaimed acting skills or in-depth plots, I hope some of them brought back great memories of childhood and a smile to your face.

P.S. Everyone knew Disney was about to be lit when you saw this come on the screen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
