Being a twin, you get asked a lot of questions and hear many of the same comments from “you two look alike” to “I’m jealous you have a twin.”
Being a twin is so much more then having someone that looks like you. It means having a forever-best friend. I’ve always had a shoulder to cry on, someone to share my passions with, someone who will dress alike with me, someone to look up to, and most importantly someone who never judges.
Growing up you always hear the same questions. Like, "did you guys dress alike growing up?" (Which we did and I personally loved every moment of it and still do)
As a twin you spend your whole life with each other, and never get bored.
It’s the growing older that gets challenging because we’ve spent so much time together, and as you grow into the careers that have been chosen, you seem to become super busy. Taylor and I go to separate schools three hours away and I’m a college athlete that can never catch a break. It’s the surprise visits home, coming to my games or the face time calls we occasionally do, that make it all seem worth it. But what makes it different from a regular best friend is when we go our separate ways for school and get really busy once classes start, we never grow apart like some friendships do.
Three reasons why you ultimately have a true friend whether it’s your twin or not:
- She’s honest. If it’s shopping and she tells you that shirt just isn’t the one, odds are she has your best interest and would never lie to you.
- You encounter distance but the communication never dies. We all grow up and we encounter distance but no matter the miles or days you spent apart you can pick up right where you left off.
- You’re always laughing. Whether it’s because she tripped or told a joke, you’re laughing. Sometimes if she’s being ridiculous and stressing you laugh and try to cheer her up, but really something isn’t funny and you continue to laugh because why not.
Being a twin has been nothing but great bonds and secrets you could never tell anyone else. Let’s be real, we all have things that even your bestest friend can’t know because you fear some sort of judgement. Your twin is essientially your keeper, like some sort of diary.
It’s more than matching clothes, matching shoes, and if telepathy is truly real. It’s more than just being siblings and crossing paths when we are home. It’s much more than can truly be explained. It’s a bond of friendship from the absolute start. We didn’t meet when kindergarten rolled around or even at daycare when we were two. It was all the days before our parents could even know us and that’s what makes it truly and utterly something that most people envy and it’s the greatest blessing of all.
