16 Moods Every Student Has Returning From Break

It’s always a mad rush to the finish. Turning in last minute assignments, taking exams, and trying to leave in a reasonable amount of time. We’re in such a hurry to leave it all behind that we forget the aftermath we’ll return to. When we do, it seems worse than the last time we were there. It’s like a flood in Louisiana or a car ramming into a brick wall — the work just keeps on coming!

Maybe you were smart enough to plan in advance, leaving little notes around to remind you what you’ll need to do when you return. Even then, promises can always break, especially when it’s one to you. So, if you’re just now returning from a school break, like me, here are 16 Gifs that describe what you may be feeling right now.

1. You're too tired

Your sleep schedule was wrecked the minute you left. Yes, it's still broken.

2. You're in denial

It's not that you don't want to. You just "can't even".

4. Overcrowded by the overjoyed

Sometimes, friends tackling you into hugs can be a nice reminder that you're loved. That is until you realize the next break is another few months away.

5. Going crazy -the lost and found version

You think you left something at home, but really it’s somewhere in the five bags you brought home.

6. Going crazy -the assignment version

That assignment you completely forgot that you’d promised yourself you would do on break…it just…didn’t happen.

7. Misreading the syllabus

When you think you're on top of it, and then you're not.

8. The bomb

You awoke to a nice, sunny day of classes. The first one: a project. The second: an exam on Friday. Oh and that one group project that you finished before the break? Yeah, that kid deleted it by accident.

9. The mishap

Oh hey, remember that balance you forgot to pay off, you did that, right?

10. Attempting (and failing) to motivate yourself

“If you finish these few assignments, then you can do this!” But…I can choose to do that now…Nah I’ll do it later.

11. When you fall, cry, cry again

Eventually, everything is collapsing around you and you cannot keep up with your studies.

12. The "it gets better" talk

It may (and hopefully will), but there are still five school days a week. That’s a long time till next Monday.

13. Realizing it's not as bad as it seemed

Pretty much self-explanatory

14. Jiving and surviving (barely)

You get back into the groove and you're getting it together.

15. Calendar Countdown

When you realize how stressed you are, you give yourself something to look forward to, like when the next break is.

16. Just keep swimming

Just like Dory said, just keep swimming.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
