Mom Bods Anyone?

Mom Bods Anyone?

With Mother's Day being this past weekend and all of the "dad bod" talk, I was just wondering when mom bods were going to become all the rage. Young women are already getting criticized up the wazoo for wearing "mom jeans" and high waisted shorts, so why can't mom characteristics just be considered hot already?

I mean, these days our society is all about equality. So, it is only fair that if a man is considered attractive for the "I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time" body, then women should be, too.

After all, the mom bod is formed after a mother has a child – which I've had at least two food babies this past week so that means that I qualify, right? Quick vent: dad bods are chosen by men who decide that working extremely hard to look good is not worth it anymore – most mom bods are earned by bringing children into the world and raising them, so why is the dad bod breaking into the scene before the mom bod? It's a little rude, in my opinion.

I'm not suggesting that girls should stuff their faces with junk food at every turn (that is, unless they are on their period – then it is 100% recommended). Mom bods are the "I take spin classes at the gym occasionally, but I also bake cookies twice a week and drink a fair amount of wine" body. A body that is not expected to be perfect because you should be able to enjoy and live life without having to obsess over your caloric intake.

So, here are some of my reasons why the mom bod should break into pop culture.

1. It breaks up the media's cycle.

These days, girls have so much pressure on them starting from a very young age to be fit, thin and perfect from almost every angle. It's practically embedded in our popular culture on television, social media and magazines, but the mom bod is all about loving the skin you're in. Talk about a better message!

2. Healthy lifestyles are still encouraged.

Moms are basically pros at balancing indulging and practicality – for example, as a child your mom would allow you to eat a piece of cake, but not seven slices. She might have taken you for bike rides and walks growing up, and now she probably has a hobby of her own that keeps her active. The mom bod is all about staying healthy and happy!

3. Better cuddling.

Okay, seriously, who cuddles better than your mom? Exactly.

4. You know what you're working with.

If a girl is healthy, taking care of herself, but also is down to eat a burger and have some beers with you without rushing to go on a cardio binge afterward, you, my friend, have found yourself a keeper. You know that she is looking out for her health, but is choosing to not obsess over it because there might be more to life than being stick thin.

(Not suggesting that the girls who would rather stay healthy and eat clean all the time are inferior, because c'mon that takes a lot of willpower. So, if that is you, I applaud you.)

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, why don't we stop pressuring one another to be perfect? If you want to workout every day and eat clean, you go girl – be like Nike and just do it. Or, if you want to workout a few times a week and have baking parties with your friends, then do that.

Just do what makes you happy and stop living your life for other people. You know, like your awesome mom does. Be like Drake and know yourself, then work what your momma gave you, sister.

If dad bods can make it, then so can mom bods.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
