10 Reasons My Mom Is My Best Friend
Joan Marcus

I know any of you reading this will say, "My mom is the best mom in the world," and perhaps to you she is.

I'll just let you in on a little secret though: my mom is the best and she is my best friend. I cannot recall a time that my mom wasn't there for me when I needed her. There are few people that I have met in my life that are as strong as she is. I know that I earned my strength from her. I thought that the rest of the world should know why she is so close to me. Also, she keeps asking why I write articles about everyone but her.

1. She Has Given Up So Much For Me

If anyone knows my past, you know that my mom has been to hell and back with me. I probably wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for her (well obviously, but later in life). Mom if you are reading this, I still have Melly and every time I look at it I think of that day that you gave it to me. I love you.

2. She Is An Amazing Cook

Coming home from college is the best, especially when I get to have my mom's cooking. She makes super healthy food taste so wonderful.

3. She Is The Best Shopping Buddy

I don't know what it is, but shopping with my mom is the best. We have similar tastes in clothing which is a plus. When we pick out gifts for others in our family, she makes it fun.

4. She Is Not Afraid To Show Her Emotions

I've seen my mom laugh until a new ab appears, and I've seen her cry over a song. A SONG! I've seen all ends of the spectrum, but that doesn't make me love her any less. It just reminds me that she is human.

5. She Plays Christmas Music...In October

And people judge me for listening to Christmas music in November. Uh yeah, you have not met my mother! Christmas music just fills your heart with magic and joy.

6. I Can Call Her Whenever

Even at 3am because she is probably awake. I like calling my mom and telling her what is going on in my life. I would think that she appreciates hearing my voice.

7. She Likes All Of My Facebook Posts

It's always nice to have someone like your Facebook posts, right?

8. She Never Lies To Me

My mom tells me how it is; whether I'm wrong or right, and I think that everyone deserves a bit of honesty in their life.

9. She Never Judges Me

I can be rapping Hamilton in the kitchen or belting Disney classics. I can dance like an idiot or play Minecraft with my brothers for hours at a time. Judgment can be so painful, and when you begin to not care about it, then you open your eyes to see the ones who don't judge you. Keep them close!

10. She Is My Inspiration

My mom may not be a perfect person, but she is perfect in my eyes. She is incredibly loving, caring, and true to her heart. I can only strive to be half of the woman that she is.

The next time that you see your mom, give her a hug that lasts longer than five seconds and tell her that you love her. You won't be able to have that moment forever.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
