Growing up I was a total "daddy's girl" and would never want to leave my dad's side. However, as I starting maturing and going through that typical teenage phase, I ended up becoming closer to my mom than I ever thought I would. Starting sometime in middle school, moving through high school and definitely now in college, my mom has been my go-to person for anything and everything in my life. Not that my dad isn't also one of the most important people in my life and I'm so grateful for everything he does for me, but there was just that mother-daughter bond that really came into play once I got older that was just unbreakable.
Whether it was educational and helped me make the decision to change my major, financial, or giving me relationship advice, I could always use my mom's advice in my dire times of need. On the other hand, if I see that she's had a rough week, I'll buy her flowers or call her when I'm at school to see how her day's been just to make her feel like she's being thought of and appreciated.
I have been through some friendships where I thought that person or people would do the ups and downs of life with me, yet that wasn't the case. Of course, I was devastated when I realized that those people should be cut out of my life for good yet my mom was there for me through all of that and has always stood by me.
Yes, there have been moments where her parenting had to trump being my friend to make sure that I was on the right path to becoming the best version of myself that I could be, but I am so grateful for those moments even though they were tough sometimes.
Having a mom and a best friend in one is the best combinations that there could possibly be; we goof around but can also talk about anything and everything for hours. We can sit on the couch and binge watch The Voice like there's no tomorrow. She's that person I tell everything to because there isn't anyone better in this world to trust. I know that when I tell her things that I know it's confidential and will stay between us.
I could not be more thankful for the amazing bond that I share with my mom and can't wait to learn more from her as I continue to get older. I can't wait to be that mom and best friend to my daughter, one day because it'll resemble that beautiful relationship that I had with my mom.
So thank you, Mom, for everything that you do for me and being there for me whenever I need you. There's definitely no better best friend than my truly amazing mother.
