10 Things I Miss About My All Girl High School

I have to admit that although I am loving college, I still miss my all girl Catholic high school in St. Louis. Not only did Cor Jesu Academy give me great friends, but I also made wonderful memories there. Here are the top ten things I miss about my high school:

1. My 156 sisters

Going to an all girl school with a class size of 157 allows you to get to know every single one of your class mates. I can proudly say that I knew everyone in my class. Over the course of four years, they became my sisters whether it was through bonding during our study periods, crying over our AP Chemistry labs, or just sitting at the lunch table together. Now on a campus with over 20,000 students, it is crazy to me to not know everyone in my grade.

2. My kilt

After being in college for just a few short weeks, I am tired of doing laundry. I miss wearing a uniform for twelve hours a day and not having to worry about what to wear each and everyday.

3. Literally rolling out of bed and going to school

Since I went to school with all girls, no one cared how they looked. I never wore makeup to school and half the time I wouldn't even brush my hair. It took me a total of five minutes to get ready for school. It's a little different in college, especially going to school with boys. You can't just roll out of bed and go to class. You have to look somewhat presentable (especially if you sit next to a cute boy in class).

4. Eating all the time

At my high school, eating food was something that happened almost all the time. Snacking during class or leaving class to go get candy was something everyone did. The teachers knew that when we said we were going to the bathroom that we were really going to the front office to get animal crackers. I definitely never had an empty stomach.

5. Bringing my lunch to school

While we are on the topic of food, I miss bringing my lunch to school. More so, I miss my dad making my lunch everyday. At college, you are kind of stuck with eating the same foods. I would do anything for a peanut butter sandwich made by my dad.

6. Spirit week

Spirit week was a big deal during high school. Dressing up in theme and coordinating with friends was so fun. I loved seeing how extreme everyone went. I remember dressing up as characters from Grey's Anatomy with my friends and loving every minute of it. I mean who doesn't like acting like Meredith Grey for a day?

7. Carpool

I miss carpooling with my best friend so much. Yes, we may have sat in silence on our 7 minute drive to school because neither one of us was a morning person, but our drive home was always a great way to end the school day. There is nothing like jamming in the car with your best friend after a long day at school or ranting about a test that you thought you just failed to feel better. It's definitely not the same walking to classes everyday.

8. First Fridays

One thing unique to my high school was going to mass every first Friday of the month. Following mass, the whole school ate lunch together and did cheers. Its something that no other high school in the area did and is one of my favorite things about my high school. I will never forget boo-ing the freshmen and dancing to "Lip Gloss" every first Friday.

9. The teachers

It's a little hard getting to know your teacher in a lecture with 200+ students. I miss my old teachers so much, and I wish I would have appreciated the small conversations I had with them while I was back in high school. The teachers at Cor Jesu were truly amazing, and I have them to thank for being so successful during high school.

10. Seeing my best friends every day

I am so thankful that Cor Jesu gave me friends that I hope to have for a lifetime. Leaving my best friends was probably the hardest thing about going to college. I used to see my friends almost every single day. Even if I didn't have classes with them, I still ate lunch with them every day. From seeing them everyday to not getting to see them for three months is an adjustment. But, thank God for Sunday night phone calls and Facetime.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
