The Misogynistic Culture

The hypocrisy of body shaming in American culture.

Let's have a talk, boys and girls. It is a known fact that over a great span of time women have been scrutinized and slandered for their physical appearances. While we have in fact become progressive in the way we appreciate women's bodies in their beautiful and natural forms, many people still seem to be overly hypocritical in their goal of preaching body positivity. It is astounding to witness people appreciate a woman's body one minute yet slander a female celebrity's body image in the next. Are celebrities not human too, just like you and me?

Growing up in the digital age makes it is so assessable for a person to hide behind a screen and degrade a woman's self worth, confidence, and physical attributes. As a person who is a regular user on Twitter, I witness the second hand harsh and rather disgustingly crude comments celebrities and young women alike receive from both male and female counter parts.

That's right, even women are pinning each other against one another by continuing to bring each other down through body and slut shaming. It's one thing for a man to disrespect a woman but now women are buying into this culture. This culture continues to become a bigger issue day to day. Victims of this hate result to such methods of coping such as suicide, self harming, and eating disorders. It is saddening to witness girl on girl hate on social media.

Women should strive to uplift and empower each other rather than constantly degrade one another. This hate feeds into misogynistic tendencies that our society has been promoting for decades. Women deserve to feel comfortable and beautiful in their skin. I feel like I sound like a broken record. Many individuals have strived to promote body positivity on social media through sharing images of themselves as a means to conflict this kind of hate. However, with that being said, it is important that we as people not only stand for the average individual but for celebrities who are human just like you and me. Celebrities have insecurities and issues just like anyone else. Just imagine having to maintain such a pronounced image in the world while having your body be a show cased item for society's entertainment. Its hard to imagine right?

I will admit that I have been judgmental in the past. I cannot lie about that. However, I have matured and realized my wrong doings and now strive to be a person who appreciates and accepts everyone for who they are. I know how it feels to be belittled over a physical characteristic, and it hurts. There is nothing wrong with being different. For some that is a hard concept to grasp, but I am hopeful that overtime, that will change. It will change.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
