T Minus Two Weeks Until Break

There are quite a few things that have happened during finals time period that I haven't quite had time to process yet because I've been so busy. The days fly by so fast sometimes one isn't able to appreciate the magical and/or insane things that occur on a daily basis. I took notes on a climate change documentary the other night and later, after rereading my notes, I noticed that one of the bullet points simply said, "politicians exist." Apparently I had thought that was a crucial thing to take note of.

Here's a list things that took place in this past week and a half that I'm just now coming to terms with.

1. One of my roommates asked me what an acorn was.

2. I attempted to start my hip hop final which entails choreographing my own hip hop dance and there was a mass gathering in my common room because everyone and their mother wanted to witness how much of a fiasco it would be.

3. When I made coffee I dropped a square of chocolate in it and was so entirely pleased with myself for having made a cafè mocha. I'm not a barista so I don't know for sure, but I have a strong feeling that that is not the actual recipe for cafè mochas. (I just Googled it. it's not.)

4. I managed to ruin every single picture during senior snowball because no one ever taught me how to pose properly.

Exhibit A:

5. During a Skype meeting, the woman I was talking to asked me if I was in a sorority. I told her no and her response was, "Oh. You look like you would be." I wasn't aware if that was supposed to be a compliment or an insult so I just laughed uncomfortably.

6. I prepared for a class presentation for approximately 16 hours because public speaking is a cruel and unusual request for a professor to make. The morning of the presentation I woke up at the crack of dawn, messaged my roommates not to be concerned if they heard me talking to myself, and practiced over and over again in the mirror until five minutes before my class started. I managed not to projectile vomit all over my classmates so all in all I would say it was a successful presentation.

7. Because of the changing seasons my nose is perpetually peeling and I am fully convinced that I will eternally resemble Rudolph.

8. Being the opinionated and demanding person that I am, I INSISTED that my team at trivia write down my suggestion for an answer because I was completely confident that I was right. We wagered the maximum amount of points and my answer was wrong.

9. During the next question we were asked who was elected president in 1829 and clearly having no concept of time whatsoever I instantly blurted out "HERBERT HOOVER." After that my teammates actively ignored all of my recommendations.

(The answer is Andrew Jackson in case you are as horrendous at history as I am)

10. After being obnoxious and incessantly grumbling to my friend about how much work I had, she sent me this calming video to help alleviate my stress. It's a 1 hour video of Matthew McConaughey literally just watching the rain, drinking coffee, and contemplating life. For reasons beyond me, I watched for a solid half hour before finally coming to my senses and quickly exiting out of the window before I let myself watch the other half of Matthew McConaughey's existential crisis.

11. On Sunday I went to Lessons and Carols at the Chapel while severely dehydrated and unknowingly sat right next to the incense dispensers. The entire time I coughed, gasped, wheezed, understandably drew glares from those sitting around me, hallucinated about cups of water, and jealously glared at the jolly old man sitting across from me who thought to bring a water bottle.

12. I went into full panic mode when I realized that my ID was missing after having gone off campus so I dragged my friends all over West Hartford determinedly trying to find it. I was so desperate I mistook a white tube sticking out of the ground as an ID. Retracing our steps proved unsuccessful so, defeated, I went back to my house. With a heavy heart I called Campus Safety who generously let me into my room and I found my ID laying front and center at the end of my bed. It's a miracle I still have friends at this point to be honest.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
