Why are so many Syrians fleeing? Why such heart shattering images of death such as the little boy who washed up on shore becoming the headline everyday this past week? Why is it that people are leaving Syria, a war zone, in higher numbers than all of history has ever seen? Media coverage nowadays are capturing every moment people flee for their lives and cross over to safer territories where they can continue life without the fear of not making it to work or their homes that day. People are fighting for their survival by leaving Syria in a mass movement. Countries such as Europe are taking people in and granting them a safe life.
In March of 2011 the term, "Arab spring," was coined a term and uprisings began spreading like wildfire. Soon a civil war broke out and rebels fought against the government and president of Syria. On top of the rebel outbreaks, ISIS began dividing the country furthermore. People are running to find protection and survive. To live in a world with out chaos and corruption. The numbers are continuing to rise and are almost at a whopping five million for Syrians registered as refugees.
According to National Geographic,, "In late September, near the Mürşitpınar border crossing in Turkey, Syrian refugees came pouring across the fallow pepper fields by the tens of thousands. They were ethnic Kurds. They were running from the bullets and knives of the Islamic State". For years people have fled however the increase in attention began when mass amounts of people fled towards Europe. Here they can ask for an asylum or a legal way of working and living in these countries. According to CNN, "Three out of five Syrians seeking asylum in Europe are in Germany, Sweden or Serbia. Relatively large numbers of Syrians also have sought asylum in Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Denmark." Even here in America, Obama has made way for refugees.
Also, according to Nat Geo, "that by the end of 2013, more than 51 million people worldwide were displaced because of warfare, violence, and persecution. More than half were women and children. Among Syrian refugees in Turkey, the proportion of women and children zooms to 75 percent. The men stay behind to fight or protect property."
To make the numbers even higher people from other countries such as Africa, Mideast and Asia where about 15 wars are breaking out. ISIS is also to blame for such mass movements of people. Without media coverage we might not be as aware of the mass migrations in these countries such as Syria.
Be aware of worldly matters. There hasn't been much recognition about the matter until the beginning of this September. The numbers are rising and war is becoming the only way of life for these countries. With elections coming up one must wonder what a president with no interest in worldly affairs would do when Syrians need homes, medical attention and overall help. Many are coming here legally and going through the system the correct way. A president who can tighten the borders for illegal crossings overs and allow mass numbers of people willing to do it the legal way would be ideal for these people. More human beings need to be aware of the retreating of mass numbers from war ridden countries.
All of my information comes from the news. CNN coverage is on top of the game and Nat Geo covers a lot of the issues growing from the main issue- fleeing homelands for protection. Nat Geo in this article particularly covers the issue of woman and what they endure when they leave their husbands on the homeland to fight. The more you read and research the issue; the more you'll know. The numbers are constantly growing however most sites keep themselves updated with proper numbers, graphs and overall changes in where refugees are seeking coverage. They are people just as we are. They simply don't live in a country with freedom such as the U.S.
