Why Millennials Need To Vote On Tuesday

If we all voted, we'd make up 35% of the electorate; isn't that reason enough?

Why Millennials Need To Vote On Tuesday
The Daily Dot

Aside from the occasional politically motivated Facebook post, I am not usually one to force my political opinion. Unfortunately, this election has brought things to the point where I must force my political opinion.

Dear Millennials,

This Tuesday, you need to go out and vote.

Don't text in your vote. Don't Facebook your vote, don't snapchat your vote. No matter what the scams say, those methods won't work. You need to physically shut down Netflix, pick yourself up off your couch, buy yourself a Starbucks, and go vote.

And I don't mean for you to go out and write Bernie into the ballot, either.

Go vote for Hillary.

I know better than anyone else that Hillary isn't the best choice of candidate. Were I given my choice in the matter, Bernie would have made it through the primary. But we have been given a choice, Clinton or Trump. Bad or evil. And, in case you're not good at figuring things out, bad is better than evil.

I have talked to many people about the election, and so many are saying they aren't planning on voting because they don't like either of the choices. As I mentioned previously, I don't like our choices, either. But I think America can survive four years of Clinton. I'm not so certain about surviving four years (potentially eight) of Trump.

Without going into a full-blown rant railing against Trump's politics, a brief glance at his webpage can show you that his ideas are crazy. He glorifies Israel as "the one true democracy," clearly not grasping the full magnitude of what is going on in Israel right now. (Uh, Trump, Israel-Palestine? Ring a bell? Or are you too busy sexually harassing women.... and we made fun of Gary Johnson for not knowing Aleppo). Moreso, he is continuously promising that he's going to "bring the jobs back to America" by "changing the regulations."

Do you know why the jobs left America in the first place?

Because of our minimum wage. We saw a mass exodus of jobs to places like China, Mexico, south and central America, and South Asia because we wanted to be paid more ... and labor abroad is cheap. It does appear like the rest of the government is going to get stacked with republicans, many of which are in full support of Trump. So he would have the power to get this "decrease in regulations" approved. To summarize; Trump "bringing jobs back to America," is going to result in a likely decrease in minimum wage and all the regulations that keep us safe on the job.

There are plenty of other crazy politics he is proposing that he has the power to get passed if in office. I'm sure you can go on his website and find three without even trying.

If that isn't enough to convince you, polls have been showing Hillary and Trump as neck-in-neck, and though many have shown Hillary as ahead ... there is a clear margin of error. A lot of these polls don't accurately account for the millennial population, however. If we all voted, statistically, we'd make up 35% of the electorate. We could, reasonably, be the deciding factor in this election.

The only way to "Make America Great Again," is to keep Trump out of office. And you and I, my millennial friends, have the power to do just that.

So go vote.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
