I'm Only 20 And I Already Feel Old

I used to know all the latest trends, now I feel like I'm behind.

I'm Only 20 And I Already Feel Old

When I say I 'feel old', I don't mean that I think I'm actually OLD. But, recently, I've realized that I haven't been as up-to-date on certain fashion trends, music, slang, and entertainment. I remember, when I was growing up, everyone knew who the hottest rapper was, or how important it was to have at lease one Aeropostale shirt in your closet. When I would talk to adults about the music I listened to or the different clothes I liked, they either had no idea what I was talking about or they didn't understand. At that time, I didn't understand how that was possible. Now, I totally get it.

Let's talk music

Lil Pump

There are so many new people in the music industry that I've never heard of or listened to, yet I feel like they're always on the top charts. For example, this is Lil Pump. Who is that? No clue. The only time I kept consistently seeing his name was just about a week ago when he was arrested for violating his probation. I had to look up the songs that he has, and it's just a style of music that I'm not into, but it seems people that are younger than me are. He isn't the only example of artists I don't know. Just recently, Miley Cyrus' younger sister, Noah, made national news for her 'big breakup' with rapper Lil Xan. I only know who Noah Cyrus is because I grew up in the Hannah Montana generation, but I drew a blank when it came to Lil Xan. It could be that I'm just not into this particular style of music, but I feel like a lot of my friends don't know who these people are. I used to be informed on every new single, popular artist, and albums. Now, I feel like I wouldn't know 80% of the songs in the top 50.

What are social media influencers?

Logan Paul

While I think the idea of making money off of your social media accounts would be awesome, I don't understand who these people are and how they got so big. For example, Logan Paul is probably one of the most popular social media influencers right now. The only reason I know of him is because he got his start on the app Vine, and he blew up on YouTube and Instagram after Vine ended its run. Now, he has over 16 MILLION followers on his Instagram just for making short, somewhat funny videos. He also made national headlines a few months back for uploading a video onto his YouTube channel of him walking up to a man hanging dead from a tree, and he laughed at it. Other popular social media influencers include the Jenner sisters, and Vine star Cameron Dallas. When I look at these people with millions and millions of followers, I don't necessarily view them as 'influencers'. I truly don't understand the concept, but they all definitely are getting a bigger pay-day than I'll probably ever get in my life.

Fashion trends

Clear Boots

Even though I would consider myself somewhat trendy, some of these new fashion trends I can't get on board with. For example, clear boots look like some of the most uncomfortable shoes you could put on your feet. Other trends I feel like younger people are getting into are graphic t-shirts with weird sayings, and anything that the Kardashian's will put on their bodies. One trend I will never understand are the bike shorts that girls wear with a casual shirt. What's the point of wearing those if you aren't going on a bike ride?

I feel like a grumpy old lady.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
