We may not all be athletes or know who Messi is (but you really should please look him up if you don't know who he is; you will not be disappointed), but the new commercial Gatorade has just released featuring the famous world-known soccer player Lionel Messi is one that I truly believe everyone should watch. this commercial goes way deeper than 'drink Gatorade and you'll be a great athlete.' It's inspiring and has true meaning to it.
Just a little background information: Messi is originally from Argentina and plays for the Argentina national soccer team, and also plays for FC Barcelona. He is known for his quick feet, pace on and off the ball, pure talent, and his drive to never go down. That's what Gatorade highlights in their commercial. Messi gets hit, pushed, tackled, pulled and tugged but never goes down.
In the commercial, the voiceover talks about how Messi may not talk much but he says more without words. "He says don't go down brothers and sisters. Don't go down. When life kicks you or tries to tackle you, don't go down." That right there changes every other Gatorade commercial. Yes, there's references to sports, but they are focusing on life and how it gets in the way. Life can be rough, we all know that, but you can't let it get you down. That's why they repeat over and over again "don't go down."
"When you have a reason to go down, do not go down."
This line from the commercial says it all. It's inspiring and encouraging. Things get tough and sometimes you just want to give up, but you can't. You have to keep pushing forward and stay up, because who knows what could be just a couple steps away?
So why should you stay up? Don't worry, Gatorade was sure to cover that as well. "You cant defy the odds when you're down. You can't make someone a believer when you're down." How can you prove to yourself and those around you all that you can do if you don't keep going? If you stay up, then you can accomplish anything that the world places in front of you.
"Don't let things on the outside be stronger than what's on the inside. Cause life has more in store for you. If you just stay up."
Each sentence that is heard through headphones, speakers or maybe even radio is important from this commercial. It tells the truth and can be so inspiring to someone who needs it or even someone who doesn't think they need it. Athlete or not, this commercial relates to life. It's something that anyone no matter age, ability, or goal can and should hear. Good job Gatorade, and thank you for bringing the focus on being inspired rather than just trying to get us to buy your product to "be better."
