What goes into your body is your decision. What goes into my body is my decision. I don't constantly post on social media about being a meat eater. I don't degrade people who aren't meat eaters. Why is that some people think they're entitled to make me feel bad for eating meat just because they don't?
I think it's great that you've decided to go on this meat cleanse. If you think that's what's best for you and your body, more power to ya! I don't feel the same way, though. My opinion on the matter should be valued just as much as yours. In light of the numerous posts I've seen lately about how going vegan is the best thing for you and how eating meat is actually bad for us, I thought it would only be fair to show the other side of the argument.
Going without meat can be bad for your health.
The human body functions best when it consumes both animals and plants, and we receive necessary nutrients from both. Many vegans go without nutrients such as Vitamin B12, animal protein (duh), Creatine, Carnosine, and Docosahexaenoic Acid. It also isn't uncommon to hear vegans putting down cholesterol and saying it's bad for you, but cholesterol is actually used to make hormones such as testosterone (many vegans have much lower testosterone levels than meat eaters). Authority Nutrition's website explains why each of these nutrients are needed and that they can't be found in a diet without meat.
I'm not saying that this diet isn't good for you, because it is good for some people. Authority Nutrition's website even says that some people have seen amazing health benefits because of their vegan diet. It isn't for everyone, though. No two people respond to things the same way. Something that is good for your body may be bad for mine, and vice versa.
Humans have been eating meat since the beginning of human existence. Our bodies are made to handle digesting meat. Sure, how animals are treated in some instances is inhumane, and processed meat isn't the best for our bodies. It isn't impossible to eat unprocessed meat, though. My body benefits from the nutrients I receive from meat, and, quite frankly, I enjoy eating meat. I also enjoy dairy products. Let me decide what I put into my body, and you decide what you put into your body.
Here's a little satire to put into perspective how some vegans come across when they pester their meat eating friends:
