Face the fact: multi-billion-dollar fast-food companies are shoving more than their artery clogging french fries down society's throats. Since the moment of birth, we are constantly forced to look at the hypnotizing advertisements that are displayed anywhere from TV to billboards in Times Square. Ultimately, these companies have the power to control minds, and they never fail to let their abilities go to waste. Their main goal over-shines the rest of them: to make as much money as possible through the application of marketing deception.
In reality, the damage that is done to victims is clearly irrelevant to big brands like McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy’s or else more than just minuscule changes would have been made by now. Understanding the whole concept of the fast-food industry is not simple, though, and it requires knowledge of the evolution of food in order to make sense of the devastation that has resulted from the typical American diet.
When comparing the food that people ate 100 years ago to what is being eaten today, the results are rather shocking. Specifically, everyone used to eat locally; there were no chains, and meat and vegetables were fresher. Not everything that people ate was healthy for them, and they still indulged in desserts or food that would make a nutritionist cringe, however, the ingredients that were being used is what made the difference.
Often, it is believed that people are born naturally craving junk food; their taste buds despise spinach but would kill for cake or a burger. Although, in truth, it is an outcome of fast-food companies and ones alike producing advertisements that are targeted towards the minds of children. For instance, the bright colors, silly characters, and inclusion of plastic China-made toys all form an equation that represents the evil inside these companies and their irreversible need to brainwash society.
Furthermore, there are other strategies used to trick the average person into playing the cruel game that fast food chains have to offer, such as making calorie and nutrition information on fast-food packaging nonexistent, and labeling other products like the ones sold in grocery stores in a very misleading way. For example, many pre-packaged foods exceed one serving, making the eater believe that he or she is eating a normal amount, while actually eating double or even triple of the recommended amount. Another tactic used is manipulating consumers to think they are consuming something healthy, when in reality, it is classic junk food. Case in point, granola bars are marketed as a healthy breakfast or snack, however, experts have proven they are more similar to a Snickers bar than they are to oatmeal.
Obviously, a nation-wide change cannot be done overnight. With that being said, gradual improvement can be made over time with the right amount of effort and concern from the nation. All in all, education is key, especially with children, regarding what they are putting into their bodies and how it will affect them in the long-run. The future would be a much brighter place if our brains were not being re-wired on the daily by a red-haired clown.
