Sustaining A Mixed Martial Arts Career for Over Two Decades: The Mario Wittmann Story

In This Article:

Mario Wittmann is a German Mixed Martial Arts Champion from Ingolstadt, Bavaria known in the MMA circles as the "Fist of Buddha"

Background

Mario Wittmann is a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, entrepreneur and reality tv star. Born and raised in Ingolstadt, Bavaria in Germany, he learned how to fight at an early age, developed his capacity with the hope of one day becoming a professional fighter in attempt to steer clear of the life of crime, drugs and lawlessness he was exposed to growing up in his neighborhood.

Commitment, Perseverance, Continuous learning

Having dedicated himself to martial arts at the age of 12, Mario Wittmann started with the basics, learning body balance and mastering his weight. He started to learn different fighting styles being able to differentiate as well as distinguish when each was better utilized. As the adage goes, “good things do not come on a silver platter”, Mario Wittmann trained hard. On the worst of days, he would keep going even when he felt like saying “to hell with martial arts”. In pursuit of knowledge he went across borders, defying cultural and geographical boundaries.

Networking

From experience, Mario Wittmann recalls having to make friends with people from different walks of life, both socially and economically. Meeting with like-minded people or persons with similar goals and ambitions is an advantage. The opportunity to share ideas and solutions to similar problems makes it easier to overcome challenges that arise on the road to success. No man is an Island therefore it is crucial to embrace working with other people and maintaining good rapport with them.

Discipline and Humility

Mario Wittmann goes on to elucidate the importance of being humble, disciplined as well as the downside to forgetting ones roots upon achieving success. To thrive for a long time one has to maintain a high level of discipline which means knowing when to say no to negative influence and doing the right things as they should be done. It is important to stay humble regardless of how knowledgeable you are or how much you have achieved. Sighting his experience at the Buddhist temple in Japan, “Mario Wittmann indicates that he had to act as though he knew nothing and do whatever he was asked to do”. That was more like his first test because when someone thinks they know it all then room to learn new things and accommodate new knowledge and ideas diminishes.

Diet: Eat Right

As a fighter, it is important to watch what one eats closely. Eating the wrong foods could lead to weight gain which can affect the ability to move quickly. Some foods facilitate the development of bad fat that eventually becomes a burden. A fighter’s diet shout typically be balanced. Have lots of fruit and vegetables, count your cabs, calorie and protein intake to cater to days where the physical activity will be more.

Learn from Mistakes

According to Mario Wittmann, one must learn from their mistakes, be willing to take good advice and seek to understand why things are not working out as expected or why they are going the way they are. To make mistakes is human, to acknowledge and seek to remedy an honest mistake is something that only winners do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
