Manna From Heaven

Even during the hard times, the Lord provides.

Odyssey Online

In the Old Testament, God brought His people, the Israelites, out of slavery in Egypt. Once out of slavery, the people had to wander the desert while waiting to enter the land the Lord had promised them. Once in the desert, the Israelites complained and grumbled about not having enough food. The Lord heard their cries and provided them with manna and quail.

Exodus 16:13 and 16 says “That evening quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning, there was a layer of dew in the camp” … “Moses said to them, ‘It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat. This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as much as they need.’”

In the desert when the Israelites had nothing, the Lord provided for them. God knew exactly what and when His people needed it. He heard their cries for food and gave them manna (bread) in the morning which was the perfect amount for the rest of the day. God’s timing was perfect and exactly what His people needed.

Just like God provided for the Israelites, He also provides for us who seek Him. My freshman year was a testament to the Lord’s provision. My first semester of my freshman year I was stressing about finding a job. I wanted a job to help provide for myself while at school and one that would give me experience for my future career. As first semester rolled along, I still couldn’t find a job. Then, out of the blue I found the perfect job for me at a local middle school. The Lord not only provided me with a job doing what I love but gave me a job that paid me well enough so I wouldn’t have to stress about my financial situation. He also gave me a job with a mission field that allowed me to mentor and love students. The Lord not only provided me with the perfect job, He also provided me with the right friends at the right time. At my loneliest, after realizing my friends weren’t really my friends, God perfectly orchestrated for me to meet new, true and Godly friends. God knew that I was struggling and craving a community of friends and His perfect timing allowed me to meet the people who are now my true and best friends.

Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” When we love God and follow His will for us, He works everything out for good. Sometimes in the moment, we might not see how our tough situation is good. Trusting that he has our best in mind we realize His will was far better than what we wanted in the end. Even in the tough seasons of life, like the Israelites being stuck in the desert, the Lord will provide. Like the Lord sending manna raining from Heaven, He will send blessings to those who love Him.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
