The month of May marks an observed one declared as "Mental Health Awareness Month," in which has been observed in May in the United States since the year of 1949, reaching millions of people throughout the U.S.
Mental health is something that has become more of a focus and reaching a broader amount of people within recent years; who either suffer from a mental illness themselves or maybe do not and have learned to understand what a mental illness is, exactly.
Whether you suffer from anxiety, know someone dealing with depression or have had or known someone affected by the broad spectrum of any sort of mental illness, it is something not to be taken lightly. It is important to remember how serious mental illnesses are and focus on stopping the stigma and enlightening others always, and not just throughout the month of May.
Spreading awareness helps others to understand the concept of a stigma and become better educated as well as aware of what these mental illnesses stand for and cause to a person's being.
Although spreading awareness and keeping positive vibes for others is so important, it is of utmost importance to hold yourself to that same standard. Life can be tough and we often feel affected by these mental illnesses or have characteristics/ specific traits that may temporarily or even long-lasting have an effect on us.
All in all, make sure to check up on others, but also check up on yourself. Mental health is SO important and being in a good headspace mentally has the power to change your entire outlook on life when you wake up in the morning to begin each and every single new day.
